Thankful Thursday

by Lori

The troubles of my heart are enlarged;
bring me out of my distresses.
Psalm 25:17

I really really REALLY need to write this now. I need to get my focus on what I am thankful for, because it has been ONE of those days.

1. I am thankful that my son is in tutoring two times a week and that he loves it!

2. I am thankful that I had the money to do a big grocery shopping so my kids can stop eating the food crumbs off the floor. Life has been so busy even going to the grocery store has been difficult.

3. I am thankful my husband can turn to me and know I will love him still when he tells me he dropped his brand new TREO in the toilet today at work. Did I say BRAND NEW TREO! Oh yeah this is a thankful post. I am thankful I still love him.

4. I am thankful that I was able to go to my first theology class at church, I LOVED IT.

5. I am thankful that despite the fact that my “fuel is low” light came on while driving to church, it was enough gas to last the whole hour and half I was in bible study because you see I left the car running. OH. YES. I. DID. Somehow got out of the car, and left it running. Could not find my keys after bible study, went to go look in my car and “Oh look I left the lights on” and then I walk closer…”Oh my goodness I left the WHOLE CAR ON!”.

So on the same day hubby drops Treo in the Toilet, I leave the whole car running while in bible study. I am thankful I had enough gas to get to the gas station.

And I am thankful I have made it home. Oh yes thank you for asking, I do have a small glass of wine sitting by my computer right now.

But I need to focus on the positive. I love my husband and love my kids, and no I am not blond. I promise.

Head on over to Sting My Heart for more Thankful Thursday.

AMEN! We ALL have "those days" when being thankful comes a little tougher than other days. Good for you for taking the step of faith to PRAISE despite your emotions. I feel that way too! Have a blessed weekend!
  • momrn2
    WHEW... what a day!!
  • Beth
Sounds like what we call an "ADD moment" around here -like the days where you find the TV remote in the freezer! Or, yesterday, I left the van doors sitting wide open for several hours while the Vikings and I sat warm and unaware in the house! *sigh*

    Laurel,

You are too cute. I love this. You and I are twins except I am blonde and yes I deserve the title. I have left my car running.

I have even gone and sat in another persons car thinking it was mine. Did I feel silly.
Blessings my sweet friend. Love and hugs, Lynn

I can only imagine how he felt when he saw the Treo in the toilet. Wow. Probably the same way you felt when you realized you'd left the car running. Good grief, what a day.

Somehow, though, you still came up with a whole list of things to be thankful for. No surprise there!

I'll bet you're glad this day is over. :-)
  • Chrixean
Oh my.... i wouldn't be as thankful to have my hubby if he dropped the Treo in the toilet! hahaha! Glad you still have your humor after everything. My thankfuls are up too :-)
  • Mommy Dearest
Treo in the toilet... oh, my! I'm laughing so hard about leaving the car running--what a hoot!

My husband comes in sometimes and hands me a glass of wine. One night my seven-year-old daughter brought me ice water in a wine glass!
  • Viamarie
This is my first time over here and I enjoyed reading your posts.

    Good list! God Bless.

I'm sorry....I did get a chuckle out of leaving the car on...I am so surprised I have not done that yet...especially on a day as today!! BTW...does the TREO still work or was it 'flushed'? I am praying that your days go better as we head towards the weekend!!! Take a deep breath! I am so thrilled about your theology class..I wish our church had one.

Hi there. Just going through the Thankful Thursday blogroll. Oh I can so relate to the Treo thing. I dropped mine in my FIL's flowerbed when it was pouring rain and didn't realize it until an hour later. It was waterlogged. I learned the hard way I'd better get insurance on the replacement. Good thing because I messed that one up too. *blushing* I'm so glad to hear you still love your husband still! LOL!

Now that is pretty funny stuff, with the car at least. I have locked my keys in my car two times in the past 3 weeks i think. Once with it still running. It must run in the family! Ha! Thanks for reading the poem!
  • Kim
Holy cow, I almost blew tea through my nose when I read #5! Trust me that I am laughing with you, not at you. I'm glad you are still so positive after a tough day. Have a wonderful afternoon!
  • april
This very blond person feels for you. I did the toilete thing with a new pair of sunglasses, not quite the same, but still. And the car thing, I've done that too....more than once. sigh.
  • Denise

  • Simple Kim
Thanks for the laugh! I have never left the car running and hope not to.

I like Jenny in CA had to look up what a TREO is!

    Have a great weekend.
  • aggiejenn
oh my goodness! What a crazy day! :-) Glad you're able to see the good in it all.
  • Lisa
No stress reliever like a good dose of gratitude, that's for sure!
  • Kathleen Marie
Oh My!! Well, Laurel, thank you for a wonderful laugh. I know it is probably not all funny now but it will be.

I am not a blond either but I recently locked my keys in my car and when my husband asked, "where is your spare set?" I had to admit, they were also in my car.

He did look at me like I was a blond, yes he did.

You do have many, many things to be thankful for!

    God Bless!
  • Jenny in Ca
and the techno dummy askes, what's a treo??

wow, you had quite the day Laurel!

the car thing, sounds like something I would do...glad you still had gas in the tank!

glad your son likes thet tutoring class.

    hope your week improves,
  • Shalee
Please oh please tell me you have insurance on the Treo...

And just how do you leave less than the whole car on...

Yeah, that day pretty much sucked, but at least you've got your health, your hubs and your family to bring it all back home. God is good - even when our day's not.
  • tatnlace
Oh my! But He did bring you through it! Amen.
  • Michelle
I hope it's ok that I found this funny (not the Treo thing, that's hideous). I'm not laughing at you, I promise. It just sounds so much like some of the days I have when my mind is simply not focused, or I have so much on my plate that much of it gets ignored.
  • Jennifer
Oh LW, that's horrible! I'm glad that your car was still running when you returned. Also, it's harder to be mad at someone for a mistake (like that, or dropping the Treo in the toilet) when we are reminded of our own fallibility.
  • devildogwife
Oh, poor thing, you have had one of those days. Leaving the car running? Wonderful job on being thankful even though it could be difficult. (((hugs)))
  • on the Rock
Yes, that's a pretty wild day! Car running and everything! Wow!
  • eph2810
Oh.my.goodness. Laurel. I am just thankful that no one drove off with your car...I guess you were in a hurry? Does you hubby's TREO still work? Or is it history? I am sure that your boys didn't eat crumbs of the floor...but I am thankful with you that you were able to go to the store.

Thank you for sharing your 'rough' thankful list with us this week.

Blessings on your day and always...
  • Beckie
OH Laurel! Leaving the car running sounds like something I'd do! You picked the perfect time to do your thankfuls!!! Praying that your day goes better. Maybe you'd like to read my post.

    Blessings to you!
  • Terri @ In His Hands
Oh Laurel. (((((hugs)))))) I've left the car on before because it's so quiet I never know when it's on or off. My friend used to do that in school all the time and they would announce it over the loud speaker.

That's great that your son likes his tutor. We're still getting the runaround, unfortunately.

I hope from this day forward things get better. I'm so happy you love your theology class. What are you studying?

That Psalm at top.....is what literally GOT ME THROUGH ... YEARS of low. Thank you so very much for not only the psalm...but how graciously God carries you through your days! Your thankfuls hit a very poignant note in this heart. God's blessings, Eileen @ http://halfwayhome.wordpress.com

I'm so glad your car was still there when you came out of church! One time my son left my keys in the door of the car (he had gone out to get something after we had gone inside)and no one realized he had done that. I thought he had the keys in his pocket all service...well...the car was gone. GONE when we went out. It was recovered later, after having been in an accident, and it's a long story, but the insurance ended totalling the car and paid us out, and ALSO gave us the car which we were able to fix for relatively cheap! So God was surely on the throne! Here's to a better day for you tomorrow! Amazing how writing down what we're thankful for changes everything! :-) ~Mariah~
  • Jenny from Queensland, enjoyin
    Oh Laurel
What a day, the car on!
You are good only having a small glass of wine, I would of had the whole bottle next to me! LOL
  • Judi
OMG! I can not believe you left the whole car on!! I am so glad you had enough gas. You must have been SUPER frustrated today! I hope sometime you can do a weekend reflection again. :) (((BIG HUGS))) Hope tomorrow is better!

  • Heather
Oh my, Laurel, you have had a day! Um what is a Treo? Am I just being clueless? And wow about the car--I am amazed because around here there is also the possibility it wouldn't have been there when I got back. He is faithul and will bring good of al of it. :)
