Here in chapter 2 David talks about world rulers and how they rebel against God, who is Supreme King. Also, Paul quotes verse 2 in Acts 4:25, while discussing the sovereign power of God.
God also says he will establish his holy kingdom on Mt. Zion. This is referring to where the Messiah will reign during the Millennium. This is also reiterated in Isaiah 2:3, “For the law will go forth from Zion, And the world of the Lord from Jerusalem.” And in vs 9, David tells what is going to happen during Christ’s second coming, “Thou shalt shatter them like earthenware.”
The remaining of the chapter David is warning the kings to show some discernment and to worship God, fear God, because he is the ONLY sovereign king.
This Psalms goes with Psalm 2 because it explains what will happen to the Kings who did not fear God, who did not show discernment.
“He will shatter kings in the day of His wrath…..He will shatter the chief men over a broad country.” This is talking about during the time of Armageddon, where they will see the wrath of God.
God is truth. There is only one true God, He is God among all the earthly kings, He is our Ancient of Days, our judge. Everyone on Earth will be judged one way or another (either as a believer or a non-believer), but no matter what your status is. You may be sitting on a throne of power here on earth, but David says: remember there is only ONE true God. And I am warning you…fear him, and show Him his honor.

Excellent summary, Laurel! Love the last paragraph especially, about there being only one true od and ruler.
Oh, my, I am so sorry for that awful typo — it should be “one true God and ruler.”
What wonderful thoughts you are sharing on those two Psalms. Isn’t amazing how David already talked about our Lord and Redeemer long before He was even born…
Wow - you had to turn on comment moderation. I am sorry to read that…
