    • Finances is a serious business, if we were to list things couples fight over I believe finances would be number one on the list. Jon Acuff, with his unique ability to make us laugh at ourselves, shares some important financial truths while sharing his own journey towards Financial Peace. You will find yourself laughing out loud while reading how “your credit card companies stalk you like a deranged ex-girlfriend”, “how you need to baby proof your house from 27 year olds”, or ” Bridesmaid Dresses: The cruelest Thing Ladies Do to Each Other.” I laughed out loud while reading every page.

    Jon takes the principles taught by Dave Ramsey. Ramsey fans who want a good laugh and a great reminder of Dave Ramsey’s teachings will love this book. Finances are a serious business but if we learn to laugh at ourselves while learning important life lessons it makes the “hard stuff” that much easier to walk through.

    • Wrestling with an Angel: A Story of Love, Disability and the Lessons of Grace by Greg Lucas is only 100 pages but it is a book that will leave you changed forever. Each page of my book is tear stained by the beauty and humility of Lucas’ story of his disabled son. You do not need to have a disabled child to have this book touch you deeply. God places pride crushers in each of our lives, it may be though a child’s disability, or through financial struggles, etc. Whatever it is Lucas shows us through every day events, where to see God’s grace through it all.

    Below are some sentences that touched me:

    Grace exposes our weakness so we can draw strength from someone stronger.
    Grace humbles us by crushing our pride through humiliation.

    I love how Lucas exposes the myth that God will never give us more than we can handle. That is a false belief, God will give us more than we can handle so we will rely on His strength. It is then we in turn can give God all the glory.

    Sometimes it is hard to pick up a book you know will be an emotional journey beforehand, but I am glad I read Lucas’ book because I would have missed the big blessings found in Wrestling with an Angel. You will laugh and cry throughout this book but you will be washed anew with God’s goodness and grace. I strongly recommend this book.

    • As soon as I opened up the book The Story of The Bible: The fascinating history of its writings, translations & effects on civilization it took my breath away. With over 90 illustrations in vivid color, including ancient iconography and contemporary photos along with captivating narrative throughout makes this a must have on your bookshelf. Even if you are not a history buff this book will sweep you away and remind you again of the painstaking work that went into the writings of the Bible. The Story of the Bible details the ways in which books in the Old and New Testament were composed and copied, how each writing was collected and the stories of the people who gave their lives in making the bible available to everyone. Stone divides the Story of the Bible into nine chapters. With a conversational tone throughout some of the topics covered are of the beginnings of the bible, the people who are found within the book, early years of the church, middle ages, along with many more.

    The above mentioned would be enough to make this a great book, but the author takes things one step further by providing over 23 life-sized, removable reproductions of pages from the world’s most important Bibles, including samples from The Book of Kells, Codex Sinaiticus, the Gutenberg Bible, along with portions of a Dead Sea Scrolls manuscript. Stone does a wonderful job in bringing a plethora of information that could fill a museum right into your home with this single book. The Story of the Bible would make a great gift!
