Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Majority of us can comprehend the sacrifice many men and women make when they serve in the military, but often times we forget the affects a war can have on a person once they are home. Digitalis is the second novel in the Discarded Heroes series. Colton “Cowboy” Neeley is a Marine sniper who suffers from debilitating flashbacks. After an episode that put his four-year-old daughter Mickey and his parents at risk, his friend Griffin offers Colton a way out of the Marines and a way to seek help. He accepts his friends offer and joins the group Nightshade.

Despite Colton’s promise to keep his heart free from all entanglements, he still feels drawn to a young woman working at the Hastings department store. Piper Blum is drawn to the cowboy, but she has secrets of her own.

After an attempt on Piper’s life, the group Nightshade is given the task to find Piper’s dad, Yitshak Rosenblum. This task leads them to Israel’s Holy Land and uncovers a secret plot to destroy Israel.

I enjoyed reading Digitalis by Ronie Kendig. The book kept me guessing what was going to happen next and it was not your typical romance novel. I would recommend Digitalis for an enjoyable read.

About:

Ronie has been married since 1990 to a man who can easily be defined in classic terms as a hero. She has four beautiful children. Her eldest daughter is 16 this year, her second daughter will be 13, and her twin boys are 10. After having four children, she finally finished her degree in December 2006. She now has a B.S. in Psychology through Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. Getting her degree is a huge triumph for both her and her family–they survived!!

This degree has also given her a fabulous perspective on her characters and how to not only make them deeper, stronger, but to make them realistic and know how they’ll respond to each situation. Her debut novel, Dead Reckoning released March 2010 from Abingdon Press. And her Discarded Heroes series began in July 2010 from Barbour with the first book entitled Nightshade.

This is the second book in the series.

If Rosenberg writes it, I read it. I have been a long time fan of Joel C. Rosenberg and devour everything he writes. Rosenberg is known for his novels that tell stories of prophesy. His books are set usually in modern day times, with some of the main characters easily to identify–even though names have been changed. The Twelfth Imam is about an Iranian government that is on the verge of testing a nuclear weapon and use it. The American administration who believes that Iran can be persuaded out of it and Israeli government who is ready to unleash all their military power against Iran. CIA operative David Shirazi heads to Iran on the mission of a lifetime. His job is to determine how far along Iran’s nuclear program is and to collect all the information he can on their location.

What David learns while there is that the twelfth Imam is the driving force behind Iran’s actions. It is believed that the destruction of Israel and America will bring the coming Islamic Messiah. The Twelfth Imam of Mohammed will return and lead the Islamic faithful to conversion to their one true faith.

The pages of this book do not turn fast enough, leaving readers wanting more. The truth in this book will leave you scared, realizing the only way to feel comfort is a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. The news media is not going to cover this information, but it is information we need to be aware of. My greatest fear is that America will be caught sleeping.

Sienna Collins, owner of the Harmony Grove Bed & Breakfast in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, learns that she is under investigation by the federal government for crimes she knows nothing about. A few hours later she finds her ex-boyfriend, Troy, dead, and her life and livelihood begin to spin wildly out of control. She begins to doubt everyone around her, even the handsome detective assigned to the case.

As Sienna tries to clear her name, she is forced to depend on her faith, the wisdom of the Amish, and the insight of the man she has recently begun dating. She’ll need all the help she can get, because the secrets she uncovers in Harmony Grove end up threatening not just her bed-and-breakfast, but also her credibility, her beliefs, and ultimately her life.

With suspense and intrigue, Secrets of Harmony Grove is a perfect book to read in October. Clark had me turning the pages wondering what was next. Despite a numerous number of sub-plots, Clark does a beautiful job in weaving everything together in the end. My only complaint was that I don’t think the questions that Sienna had concerning her faith were adequately answered by the end of the book, but just like real life we are always a work in progress.

If you are looking for an easy to read, enjoyable book I recommend Secrets of Harmony Grove.
