Finances is a serious business, if we were to list things couples fight over I believe finances would be number one on the list. Jon Acuff, with his unique ability to make us laugh at ourselves, shares some important financial truths while sharing his own journey towards Financial Peace. You will find yourself laughing out loud while reading how “your credit card companies stalk you like a deranged ex-girlfriend”, “how you need to baby proof your house from 27 year olds”, or ” Bridesmaid Dresses: The cruelest Thing Ladies Do to Each Other.” I laughed out loud while reading every page.

Jon takes the principles taught by Dave Ramsey. Ramsey fans who want a good laugh and a great reminder of Dave Ramsey’s teachings will love this book. Finances are a serious business but if we learn to laugh at ourselves while learning important life lessons it makes the “hard stuff” that much easier to walk through.

The will of God. There are so many books that cover the topic of the will of God; finding the will of God for your life, seeking the will of God in all situations. It is a subject that has been discussed over and over again. Do we really need another book discussing the will of God? My answer is Yes! The title of the book basically sums up the book Just Do Something: How to Make a Decision Without Dreams, Visions, Fleeces, Open Doors, Random Bible Verses, Casting Lots, Liver Shivers, Writing in the Sky, etc.. This is an excellent book to have a Senior in High School to read. Excellent book for someone who is trying to find the will of God in their life. An excellent book for anyone looking for the right person to marry. You get the picture this book is for everyone!

DeYoung in his conversational style tone, teaches readers what it means to:

- Discover the biblical application of the phrase “the will of God”
- Putting away your fear of “missing God’s perfect will”
- Putting off passivity as you embrace an active and energetic life of obedience to God’s word
- Rejecting the burden of discovering the right fleece, open door, or falling lot.

Just Do Something by Kevin DeYoung taught me exactly what to pray for while facing a big decision. I strongly recommend this book for the New Year!

Author:

“Works done in God’s name long outlive our earthly lives.”
“No one can do everything, but everyone can do something.”
~Max Lucado, Outlive Your Life

Max Lucado is one of my favorite authors, but I will be honest I approached this book with apprehension. My apprehension was wondering what more could Lucado say that has not already been said in his vast number of already bestselling books. Outlive Your Life is not a big book with a mere 173 pages, but it captured my heart from the first story of searching for Father Benjamin to last page listening to the young musician in the Washington, D.C. metro station.

Each chapter stands alone and they are organized as a devotional with a verse and prayer at the end. Outlive Your Life would make a wonderful bible study book. Lucado has included a Discussion and Action Guide for each chapter in the back of the book along with Ideas for Action, these offer suggestions in how to begin making a difference. Outlive Your Life marks a milestone for Lucado, this is his 25th year in publishing, but he does not want you to celebrate with him by just reading Outlive Your Life, his desire is to move you to action by reconsidering your role in the world.

Whether you are a new Christian or one who had been in the church since nursery, you need to read this book. This book will show you how to put your Christian walk into action. For us veteran Christians we can get stuck hopping from one bible study to another, but what good is learning about Christ if you are not obeying and putting into action what you have learned. This book shows you how!

In 2005, Reader’s Digest magazine dubbed him “America’s Best Preacher” and in 2004, Christianity Today magazine called him “America’s Pastor.” The product line for 3:16—The Numbers of Hope sold more than four million units worldwide, including one million units of the cornerstone trade book of the same title (released in September 2007), making it the fastest selling Lucado product in his career.

Max Lucado, Minister of Writing and Preaching for the Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas, is the husband of Denalyn and father of Jenna, Andrea, and Sara. On a good week he reads a good book, has a few dinners with his wife, and breaks 90 on the golf course. He usually settles for the first two.
