Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Wisdom Walks covers 40 ways readers can experience God in a fresh way through everyday circumstances. Each devotional begins with a story from one of the authors, then moves to a key life principle, along with questions for either individual or group study. This book would is a great devotional to read alongside the book of Proverbs. Wisdom Walks is about passing along a game plan that prepares younger generations for challenges and reveals God’s truth in relevant ways.

Some of the topics covered are:

Engaging God No Matter What
Pay Attention to God’s little Nudges
Leave The Mark of Jesus
Take Every Thought Captive
Prayer Does Change Things

along with many more….

Wisdom Walks is great for any age, but this would make a great graduation gift. I have greatly enjoyed reading each devotional. It is filled with God’s word relating to everyday situations.

“[W]hat if you grew up on a desert island with nothing but the Bible to read? [Y]ou would be convinced that the Holy Spirit is as essential to a believer’s existence as air is to staying alive,” writes Chan (p. 16). Francis Chan wrote Forgotten God to help Christians capture the necessity of the Holy Spirit.

This book will challenge you, step on your toes, but most of all will have you reevaluating the role the Holy Spirit has in your life.

Several points Chan points out:

1. Chan does a beautiful job in pointing out the Holy Spirit is a Person, a “He,” not an “it.” He is God; eternal & holy; omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent. He has emotions, a mind and a will. He prays for us. He teaches and reminds us of what we we need to know. He applies our salvation to our lives. Chan wants these truths to lead readers “to a deeper relationship with and a greater reverence for the Spirit—that good theology would lead you to right action, genuine love, and true worship” (page 77).

2. Chan challenges believers in saying: If it’s true that the Spirit of God dwells in us and that our bodies are the Holy Spirit’s temple, then shouldn’t there be a huge difference between the person who has the Spirit of God living inside of him or her and the person who does not? (page 32)

3. The Christian life is to be lived in the power of the Holy Spirit, in obedience to Christ, to the glory of the Father. We must not quench His work in our lives, caring more for comfort than for holiness.

Chan closes each chapter with biographical stories of men and women whose lives have been transformed by obeying the Spirit’s leading. I found these stories inspiring and encouraging. There are some thoughts in this book that I struggle with, but it is a struggle where it leads me to search scripture and to evaluate the role the Holy Spirit has in my life.

Forgotten God by Francis Chan is a book I recommend!

In Plan B pastor and author Pete Wilson uses real life stories of disappointments and hurts along with the biblical stories of men and women like David, Joseph, and Ruth to help readers come to grips with the truth that they will face situations that in themselves they are completely unable to handle but that in them God is simply trying to get them to surrender their plans so that they can receive His. He identifies our common responses to difficulties and offers hope, helping us to

* Understand what God might be up to
* See how surrender helps us to receive God’s plan
* Embrace the community of believers
* Reconcile a God of love with a life of tragedy and suffering

Everyone should read Plan B! Pete Wilson has a gift of walking readers who are hurting—who have had their life shattered by events—and showing them that God is indeed there walking with them through this pain. I believe everyone in their life has a time where things do not go as planned. You lost a loved one to early, a spouse walked out, or you are battling a physical aliment. No matter what the situation is Pete Wilson shows us through passages of scripture the many biblical characters who lived their whole life living out Plan B and how God used their Plan B to bring healing and glory to God.

If you have someone who is going through a difficult time this would be the prefect book to pass along. This will be a book I keep on my shelf to read whenever things don’t go as I had planned.
