Journey to the Cross…

in Biblical Message

The only way to the empty tomb is through the cross. There were disciples who followed him for years, they gave up everything, left their families to follow Christ. But when it came time for his crucifixion only John could be found standing at the foot the cross. We all have 20/20 hindsight today. Where would you have been if you lived during that time? In all honesty I don’t know where I would have been. And if I am real honest, probably hiding.

I see the scourges tear His back,
I see the piercing crown,
And of that crowd who smite and mock,
I feel that I am one.

‘Twas I that shed the sacred blood,
I nailed Him to the tree,
I crucified the Christ of God,
I joined the mockery.

Yet not the less that blood avails,
To cleanse away my sin;
And not the less that cross prevails
To give me peace within.

(Horatius Bonar)

For it was I who nailed him to the cross, it was I who made him die. But in return I was saved.

Thank you so much for a couple moments of self-reflection as we prepare for Easter week. I think I would have hidden as well, but maybe would have wanted to go with the women to bring spices to the tomb. Have a blessed Easter celebrating our resurrection life!

I’ve always imagined me being one of those who didn’t yell “Crucify him!”, but rather I would be one of those people who talked behind the scenes with my gossip, unjustified hate and condescention. No matter how I look at it, I know that I would have been me who hammered the nail into his hands.

Thank you God for the glory of forgiveness and the beauty of grace!

Powerful message Laurel. I like to think I’d be trying to save Him…but in reality…I would probably be scrunched down behind something—trying to protect myself. Selfish soul that I have been.
You have packed a punch with this girl!
