Barb at A Chelsea Morning is at it again, first is was the name of our blog and now ”
HOW I MET THE LOVE OF MY LIFE”. All I have to say is BARB you are soo creative, I love these ideas.

How I meet my “manly man”:

The simple answer is we went to the same college and lived in the same dorm. The more detailed version is:

I was in love with another. This “another” I have been chasing since 3rd grade, so this was not just “another” it was a “this maybe my forever ‘another’ “. Well things were not panning out as I had hoped with the guy I thought I was in love with. My feelings were stronger than his feelings. So I had a major broken heart. Looking at another guy to date was not even in my mind. I was done with guys for awhile.

Well I moved into a co-ed dorm. Girls on one side, guys on the other. Manly Man was on the men’s 3rd floor and I was on the girls 3rd floor, and for some reason all the guys on 3rd floor hung out with all the girls on 3rd floor. Manly Man was one of those “life of the party” kind of guys, I was more shy. My girlfriend at the time really liked him. I think both of us were just having fun hanging out and flirting. Manly Man and I became friends. Friends that flirted, but still only friends. I found we could talk for long periods of time, I would come to him for my boy troubles. Told him about my broken heart, and my love loss over “another”.

I loved being with him, he became my best friend. We always were in a group when we hung out. As the year was coming to a close, he had to go back to Virgina and I had to go back to Arizona. I remember talking to my sister and Mom saying, “manly man is sooo nice, I really enjoy him, I am just not attracted to him”. During the summer we racked up the long distant phone bills, he made “tapes” for me of songs that reminded him of me. He wrote me letters, etc…

The next school year I was moving into an all girls dorm that had nicer rooms. I drove up with my car packed, ready to carry everything into my dorm room. I had my sister with me. Manly man was already settled in; came over and was helping me move my stuff in. Sister (for the first time seeing manly man) took one look at him and said “HE IS HOT!!!”. I took one look at my sister and narrowed my eyes and said, “HE’S MINE!!”. And I guess like they say, the rest is history.

From then on manly man and I were an “item”. We dated for 3 years before he proposed to me during my Senior year of college. And I do have to agree with my sister, even after 12 years of marriage, he is still “hot”.

You make a beautiful couple. I love your story. Isn’t it great to still think your husband is the greatest in the world after all the years?

I love your “love story”, and it is so nice that you met at the dorm, that you were friends first and flirted with it getting a little more serious as you soon found yourself guarding you manly man with your sister…too cute! lol

What a great story. I love the element of possessiveness once the sister was on the scene - maybe having her there brought the “I’m just not attracted to him” into a new light? Too funny!

What’s great is that you were friends before you fell in love with each other. That pretty much guarantees a good marriage. I loved reading this story. I felt kind of bad about “another” thought. From the 3rd grade to college is a long time!

That is so sweet and cute. Sometimes it takes a smart sister to help us open up our eyes. Cute!

Friendship makes the best foundation for a solid marriage. How funny that sibling rivalry played a part in your realizing what a catch he was!
