Do I have any Stargate Atlantis watchers out there? I guess I will be showing a bit of my nerdiness.
The premise of the show is a lost city called Atlantis that was discovered by Earth (it is located in another dimension). A group of people called the “Ancients” built and lived in this city but were forced to leave. The Ancients were very intelligent people, had great technology, and reached a level of awareness a person could only dream of. People from Earth found this lost city located deep under the water, they were able to raise the city from the depths of the sea and now inhabit this place. But they don’t understand everything about the place. There are mysteries they have not even begun to understand. They are in search of the “Ancients” to find out why they had to abandon their city, also to find out more about the city, and to learn more about new technology they have never seen. This is the best of our Earth’s best, the smartest, trying to learn more about people who lived long ago. They are people who made their mistakes (they developed a plague by accident that ended up killing most of them, some fled the city, others were made evil due to the plague). Whew…I say all that to say:
We live our lives looking, learning, and discovering the Ancients also. Trying to copy them, relate to them, and learn from their past mistakes.
I look at David, and I see a man after God’s own heart. I desire the heart of David.
I look at Ruth and her dedication. I desire Ruth’s dedication to things of importance.
I look at Isaiah and his revelations from God. How I desire for God to speak to me like that.
I look at Esther, who was created for just a time as this to save her people. I desire Esther’s purpose.
I see Peter and how he likes to eat his words, but God still called him the rock. How I desire Peter’s steadfastness.
I see John’s heart; Jesus called him “beloved.” How I desire to have John’s passion.
I see a Paul a “worst of sinners” transformed to be one of God’s greatest missionary. How I desire Paul’s desire for spreading the word.
I see Timothy who did not let people’s comments on his youth get in the way. How I desire to have Timothy’s perseverance.
Ultimately I look at Jesus Christ and try to follow how he lived his life here on Earth. But I will be honest, I like to see how ancient sinners lived and how God came to call them “wonderful/beautiful/beloved/rock” etc… It gives me hope.
Some of the sins they fell into, I can read about and try to learn from book knowledge instead of life experience. Praise God there were ones who paved the way for me. Ones who give me hope to continue, because God did not give up on them. Ones who blew it big time, but still made the “Hall of Fame” in God’s eyes.
I don’t know if the people of Stargate Atlantis will ever find their Ancients and be able to ask a lot of questions. I am fortunate that I have the bible that gives me their perspective, their struggles, and their walk with God. And I know right where to find them. After I see Jesus, it will be at the feet of these people I will be sitting and listen to all the stories they have. Praise God I have eternity, I can ask a lot of questions.
