Somedays you are the dog, somedays you are the cat….

by Lori

Thursday I was the cat. It was a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day…..

Kids did not bring home the best progress reports (not sure whose kids they thought they were, where they thought they could get away with NOT turning in homework, even after Mom asked if they had some EVERYDAY). But alas, your sins will find you out.

I am coming to the place where I have to say my youngest has a reading disability. I detest that phrase, I struggle and fight against it. But the reality that it may always be a struggle is hitting me hard. And truthfully I am at the point I don’t know what to do more, except just push through it and pray one day it will click. We are doing specialized tutoring, he is getting extra help at school, but even after a year or so….he is still struggling. I won’t give up, just frustrated right now.

And to top it off, I am excited hubby is back home but I am just plum worn out.

So you all have a great weekend. I will see you Monday with an interview of a very special lady in my life and a giveaway.

God loves you!!

But before you go…..Check me out here on Friday.

Laurel,

May I comfort you by telling you that my husband and I as well as both girls have Learning Disabilities that affected our reading–and that by figuring out what specifically the disability was and finding what works all four of us are now avid readers with little to no difficulty.

As a former Special Ed teacher who deals with reading issues on a daily basis I ask the following–if you get a moment, would you be willing to email me about his specific issues? I have worked with most types and may be able to help (we have found that since my husband and I both struggled that it is much easier for us to find work arounds than for a reading specialist who has no disability. I also have a wide range of resources that may help. and often a Learning disability is only a disability because of the setting a child is placed in–in another setting the way he thinks could be a real asset because “Learning disabled” really means that the mind works slightly differently then the average person. We [refer LD meaning “learning differently” instead of learning disabled.

Hey sweetie-

First off, LOVE THAT PICTURE. It really made me laugh.

Sorry you’re having such a stinky week. John has dyslexia, and so I know how frustrating it can be. But I applaud what you’re trying to do. His folks never bothered.

Although I can’t help, I will pray for all of you :) Sending hugs and counting the days til you come to town !

Hang in there Laurel! Praying God will bring you to exactly the right resources and people to get past this point with his reading.

Love the picture and boy can I relate to that some days.

So what do I do when I’m a bear?

I’m saying a prayer that you’ll have patience with your son and that God will give you renewed energy when you sweet man gets home. (I find it funny how I can be dead tired until Mr. Right gets home. Then I have energy to, ummm… talk. Yeah, we like to “talk” after we haven’t seen each other in a while. ahem.)

Oh no, I feel really bad if you actually felt like that cat this week.

Our youngest daughter has speech and language difficulties so I know as a parent it can be really frustrating to have a child that you are not quite sure how to help.

I will be praying that you find what works for him. I am sure there must be someone or something out there that can help.

Hang in there, girl, and have a great weekend with your family.

What a funny picture! At least you can retain a sense of humor about your yucky week. Hang in there!

Laurel~
I can ALWAYS count on you to give me a GOOD laugh.

Not at your post…but at your picture. TOO funny.

Thanks for sharing your heart…God will meet you….right where you are at.

Glad to hear your hubby is home!!
Enjoy your weekend.

I saw this picture in Bloglines and smiled BIG…

but when I read it, my heart ached for you. I have this blessing/curse thing going on where I read just as much that’s not written as is written. So…sweet one…I’m sending you the biggest cyberhug I know how to give, with a heartfelt prayer tagging alone.

I do think acknowledging his struggle will help you in yours…:)

That picture is just perfect Laurel. I have often felt like that poor cat. I’m sorry you’re feeling that way now. I pray grace and strength for you.

Hi Laurel,

Just wanted to say that you are precious. I hope your weekend is better than your week. I’ll be praying for you.

Oh my goodness, we had the same week, LW! I’m thinking I was the cat. LOL

It sounds like you have your hands full. Believe me, I understand. But trust me, it gets better.

Just when you think it won’t get better, it does.

My meltdown was Friday evening. I thought I was ready to throw in the towel. Then I realized, I just needed to do the laundry and WASH the towel. LOL

Here’s hoping your new week is better. Mine’s going to be. One way or another, it IS going to be.

xoxoxo
