Mother always said there will be days like this…

by Lori

Have I told you guys lately that I have the best readers around, I’m telling ya I really do!! Thank you sooo much for the comments you left for my Mom (see post below). It meant a great deal.

Hope you are having a good Friday. I had the day off from work, but I felt like I “worked” more than when I did go to work. I cleaned the car getting ready to take it on the road for a week, it was overcast here in FL but the humidity was a killer. I felt like I took a bath just vacuuming my car. I did not clean my house today, did not even make the bed, my focus was on getting the car ready, the kids packed, clothes washed, etc.. Well any regular reader knows I have my house for sale (and if you are not a regular reader I am so glad you are here because did I tell you I have the best people that stop here…)..anyways back on topic. Oh yea, my house is for sale and I did not clean my house, you know what that means…Yep you got it, I got a call in the afternoon that they want to show my house in 30 mins.

I did was any self respecting woman in this situation did, one that knew God had everything under His control. I ran around the house like a chicken with their head cut off, and sqwaking the whole time. Dog freaking out, kids hiding, and me almost breaking my Windex bottle over the toilet because I just. can. not. take. this. anymore! Oh girls this is me, real and honest. Windex abuse has become a pasttime, the bottle will never stand upright again. Me neither for that fact ;)

I had to load all the boys, and the dog into the car and then drive across town to take youngest to his reading tutor. I felt like the “Hillbillies Do Florida,” all I needed was the chicken on top. Of course the boys were NOT behaving, there was arguing in the car. “He flicked me,” or “Mom, he won’t stop talking,” and my favorite “Mom, did you know that squirrels have p**is’ (male body part).” Where in the world that came from, I DO NOT KNOW. Must have got this piece of knowledge from their Father, or you know the friends in the neighborhood. Allrightythen…

So now I am sitting on my bed, door shut, kids still arguing in the living room but there is no sign of blood (that is what you look for when you are a Mother of Boys). I am looking around at my clean house thinking, “I have no idea where I stuffed what, it looks good on the outside, but Lordy don’t open any drawers.”

Oh how much is that true in our life. We can look good on the outside, but don’t you dare get any closer or it might all come tumbling down. Some days are just like that, I praise God I have am a servant of the One who will clean out all my drawers for me and I can just rest in his everlasting arms.

So how was your Friday, better than mine I hope =))

Thought I'd drop by and say hello since I'm finally able to get back on the computer a bit. God bless you and take care!

Amen. I know EXACTLY what you mean. You are wonderful to be so "real" for us!

I still remember a trip in the car with all three kids; I got so aggravated I pulled over, rolled down the window and threw out a Bible they were fighting over. Dead silence. When Mom throws the Bible you know she's had it. I loved your analogy - clean house, dont open the drawers. Food for thought there.

Girl, my whole life is like that. Well, minus the boys, blood, and squirrels with male body parts, anyway. ;o)

Have a safe trip! (Leave the poor Windex at home...)

I can totally relate. I filled an 8x10 storage unit with excess stuff just so the house would "show" well. I was making my boys' beds almost before they got out and I actually took baskets of dirty laundry in my truck some days (yep - hillbillies)! I felt like more of a caretaker than a homeowner. We had as many as 4 showings in a day (114 total in 5 months)! But God is gracious - He'll never leave you nor forsake you. He'll give you strength even when you think you can't do this any more. And this isn't a way of life - it's temporary (even when it doesn't seem like it).

    Praying for you,
    Dianne :D

Oh, I remember those days with a house on the market!

The good news is, you have a clean car!

Oh dear. I am sorry that you had those kind of Fridays. I am glad that you and your beloved will have some time away from the craziness of life next week. Enjoy the time together, my sweet friend.
    (((hugs))))

Oh, you make me so glad my house is not for sale. For someone like me, who is NOT a clean freak--unless I am getting sick or have some other stress, then I clean and clean and clean so that when I get sick the house is at least tolerable, keeping a house ready for realtors makes me crazy.

And when I do go crazy with the cleaning last minute objects ALWAYS get stuffed--no wonder my kids stash things when they clean. Hmmm. Need to work on that one. SO, what have I stuffed into the drawers of my heart? Plenty of things. Need to go have a pray that the Lord would clean it out. :)

    Laurel,
Thanks for taking the time to stop by and visit my blog! I have enjoyed reading yours.....
    Have a great weekend!
    Blessings!

I've been running around trying to get things ready to go out of town-so I hear ya.
But, tomorrow we will leave and it will all have been worth while.
Hope you have a good weekend.

Been there; done that Laurel. I think one of the best things about our blogging friends is that we can be real with each other - and not worry about what anyone else will say. We have all been there.
I love the analogy. We can look really spiffy on the outside and be a total disaster on the inside. Thankfully the Lord can deal with that just fine.
    You have a good weekend.

It never fails, does it? Hopefully, your house will sell in the next few weeks and your torture can be over. Blessings to you!

Oh, Laurel -- if it is possible to chuckle and empathize at the same time -- I did. I think we've all had "days like that," maybe not in the specifics but in the feelings and pressures. What a wonderful thought at the end. Hope your trip goes well! It will be nice not to have to worry about getting the house clean those days!
  • Barb
It never fails - let the house go for one day and that's when they'll give you half an hour's notice they're going to show it.

I know how nerve wracking it is. I'll be so glad when this is all over for you.

How's your mother? I can't imagine stepping on a scorpian. Just the thought makes me cringe. I've heard it's very painful. Poor thing.
  • Susanne
oops, that should say "I will NEVER use Windex...."
  • Susanne
Oh Laurel, my heart really goes out to you. I had to pause in the sympathy though, to laugh at the the Windex abuse. I will use Windex again without thinking of you.

BTW, I love how you tied all that together into a devotion.
  • Crystal
Oh Laurel...I know exactly what you mean...thank you for being so real and sharing yourself here! I am blessed to "know" you!
    Blessings
