Just call me “Soccer Mom, Taxi Driver”

Manly man had lunch with his father today, and a piece of conversation went like this (relayed to me by manly man).

FIL: So how is Laurel?Manly Man: She drives

FIL: She drives? What do you mean?Manly Man: Well she drives the boys to and from school, then after school two times a week she drives youngest to his tutoring lessons (takes 45 mins round trip), and now soccer has begun she has to then run all three to their practices once a week (in different locations), with games every Tuesday and Thursday night (needing to be there by 5pm, not getting home until 8pm because there are three boys, so we have three games). So basically she drives…

Sigh… so true. And I relay this message to you because I realized last night as I was trying to get caught up on blog reading, I was reading your list of dinners for the week, but turns out to be the week before. It then hit me how behind I have been. Life has been taking me over, if I am driving so much that means I am not visiting you guys or blogging. I really like to visit each person that contributes to “In Other Words..” (I look forward to it) but it is becoming more difficult (believe me I am still going to try my best, it just may take me a day or two). I want to get caught up on all my blog reading, I don’t want my regulars to think I dropped off the face of the earth.

So I guess I am saying, I usually can get a post up (like this one) but visiting and getting caught up with all of you wonderful, awesome women is taking time. Please be patient with me, sometimes it may take me a week to get to some of your awesome posts and I really don’t want to miss anything good. And if you have something really awesome, then by golly email it to me (heheheh). I don’t want to miss the boat you know…

Thanks for listening to the ramblings of a current Soccer Mom Taxi Driver (who right now is dreaming of the days when she is too old to drive and has to have someone drive her!! And who is collapsing into bed)

Laurel Wreath, for the last year I've been leaving my house at 2:15 and getting home around 8 pm, on average! And then from 6:30 to 11 am on Saturdays!

I'm mentioning it only because it will end one day. It will! It has for me, and now I'm trying to catch up on everything that has fallen by the wayside.

One summer when my kids were younger 6 & 7, I was a maniac. Swim lesson for 6 year old. Drop off and RUN to next lesson Kickboxing for 7 year old. Drop off and Run to get 6 year old to run and get back to the 7 year old to run home for lunch to race through and run to soccer camp.

I remember vowing at the time NEVER AGAIN! That was before my precious kids were TEENAGERS! Now I don't run to everything but I never get out of the car ie: Pull in driveway and Honk. Teen comes running out. Drop off teen. Go home pull into driveway and Honk. Another couple of teens come running out and I go deposit them at their destination. I breathe go home and sit down for lunch.

I love doing this--You learn so much when you rive the teens around.

I can relate, oh yes!
Three kids in soccer, music and tennis. Youth groups, too!
I'm fortunate with 2 of my sons my husband coaches.
But I love the times I tote my kids around, and get to hear about their days and talk to their friends in the car. I learn a lot :)
Other things are more important than reading our blogs! :)

I could have written this exact post, Laurel. Except my problem isn't the driving. Mine is suddenly being practically a full time day care provider due to circumstances beyond anyone's control. But man, I remember when Rob and I both drove constantly to keep up with our kids' activities.

I'm having the same issue. It's not that time consuming to do a post but reading everyone else and commenting takes hours and hours if you try to stay on top of everyone. I simply cannot do it. That's why I'm posting so much less often lately. I feel guilty posting when I don't have time to read everyone else.

The balance - a neverending struggle for all of us. I'm seeing this kind of post all over the place lately. So don't beat yourself up. We sure understand since apparently we're all in the same boat and sinking fast. LOL

Once again, Laurel, our lives operate in some parallel universe...when people ask me what I do, I say "get in and out of the van! all day long!" But just this week I was pondering the privilege I have to say yes to God's call to be at home and to be the taxi driver for my boys. I've discovered they talk to me the most in the car on the way to school...or home from school...or on the way to practice...or home from practice...These are moments to treasure! Despite how it seems to you and me both, this stage of our lives will not last forever.

Ah, this brings back so many memories of my life and times as a soccer mom, clogging mom, football mom, cub scout mom, etc. The kids are all grown now, with baby getting married soon.

Oh Laurel, I can so relate! This last couple weeks has been almost overwhelming with trying to keep up with the blogging thing. But you know what? There is grace here too and I'm telling you it is okay to hit the all read button once in a while. Life will get into a routine again soon and we'll all be here.

Laurel - there are seasons in life that are just incredibly busy. I've been where you are now. Please don't put pressure on yourself to visit and read all of our posts. Things will probably settle down in time and then you can get caught up. Right now those boys are the most important people on the list!!
