Because I am such an unexciting person……

by Lori

I went to the Drs today and got my go ahead to begin chewing. Now I have to say the Drs apt was not fun, it seems my jaw is “locked” and I have to work with some tongue depressors to help pry it open. Now let me tell you, it is as fun as it sounds. And yes there were tears. I have been in constant pain all day because I need to do this “prying” every hour or so. Sigh….

But the good news is that I will hopefully get to chew some of my Thanksgiving dinner. I wish I could say I am more excited (I really am) but I am in so much pain right now it is hard to be excited.

Now I know what you all are asking.

WHAT DID SHE CHEW FIRST?

Sorry Susanne, it was not cheesecake (wish it was)

Barb, you can toast that glass sweet friend. Thanks for all the support.

I truly was going to have fish tonight but it did not work out. And because I am not an exciting person.

This is what I had:

Oh well it was healthy, and veggies is something I know I have not got enough of. But I did CHEW THEM.

Congrats on the chewing. I am so sorry about the pain of having to get that jaw to open back up.

I hope and pray that will resolve soon and you can really get down to business with some real chewing!!

Glad to hear you got the okay on chewing.

I’ve been wanting to ask you about the surgery and if you think I should do it, etc. (slight underbite), but maybe this isn’t the best day to ask. :) It is one of my options to correct the problem, but I’m nervous about it.

Oh you poor thing. It hurts just to think about it. The green beans are a start. I think by Thanksgiving you will be good to go (or chew!). I’m going to pray you feel better soon.

So sorry about the pain taking away from this exciting day. Praying that it will all be gone soon!

And what do you mean you didn’t have cheesecake?! Beans is not even a close second, dear friend!

OUCH ouch OUCH!
I am so sorry that you have a locked jaw!
I hope you are able to chew something super yummy soon!!!

Hugs

Hooray! You chewed, Laurel!

Oh Sweetie, you chewed. I’m sorry it wasn’t a wonderful jalapeno garlic tilapia dish from Olive Garden. But oh my goodness, you’re eating solid food again.

See? I prayed for you. It worked. OK. I’m now completely REconvinced. Prayer works.

This is huge. Go easy, Girl. Take it easy and gently. But oh my sweet goodness, I think the worst is over for you. I’m so, so glad.

You know what? I wonder if everyone understands that you just went through a terrible ordeal. Having your jaw wired shut, but having to be a mom and wife and cook for your family when you couldn’t eat. Well. I’m not at all sure I could have handled this with the grace you handled it with.

I’m so amazed that you stayed cheerful almost all the way through this. Good for you.

GOOD FOR YOU!!

You inspire me. xoxoxo

Glad the chewing has begun. I can definitely understand starting with something easy to chew. Praise the Lord that it will get better and not worse. Praying you through.

I hope you feel better soon! At least chewing is the first step.

Oh, bless your heart!! That sounds quite painful!!

Thankfully, some of the best thanksgiving food is soft – cornbread dressing (my personal fave), sweet potato casserole, cream corn, etc.

Take care of yourself!

oh my goodness! That sounds horrible…and my jaw is aching right now in sympathy.

I truly hope you get to chew freely on Thanksgiving!

theresa November 15, 2006 at 12:35 am

Glad to hear you got the go ahead! And, don’t worry if you keep it up you’ll be chomping Thanksgiving dinner instead of chewing. :)

Jessica November 15, 2006 at 8:22 am

I am sorry you are in pain.

But…at least you are making progress right?!? Try to focus on the positives! Congrats for that!

Barbara H. November 15, 2006 at 12:44 pm

Ouch! Hopefully the pain will lessen and chewing will become fun again before too long.

What are you doing for food in the mean time? Ensure or something like that?

Cyndi November 15, 2006 at 12:52 pm

I am so sorry you’re in so much pain. You’ll never take “pain-free chewing” for granted again, I’ll bet. (I had to have one of my lungs “deflated” for a surgery one time, and I’ll always remember the pain of “reinflation” and how I’ve always been thankful for pain-free breathing!)

I’m praying for swift and full restoration and healing for you, so you can chew your way through the holiday season! :)

Hm – yummy green beans :) – Haven’t had those for a while :)

I am sorry that you have to do the prying exercise every hour though.

I’m so glad that your jaw is healing well, but I’m sorry that you are suffering at the moment. I know what you mean about the veggies, if I go a few days without them I seriously crave a huge bowl of mixed veggies, it must of been hard for the last few weeks. Hopefully you will be chewy your way through a magnificent Thanksgiving dinner soon!

Shalee November 28, 2006 at 12:10 pm

Oh the inhumanity of it all! I never received notice that you posted… Bloglines just sucks sometimes.

Albeit belated: Congrats! Oh you so need to go get that cheesecake!

God is sooo good!

But the locked jaw thing really does seem insufferable. I’m praying now that God will ease that pain and let you get back to life and all the goodies it has to offer.
