More than you probably every want to know ramblings…

by Lori

I took a bit of a blogacation this week, but does not mean I did not write. This is my week in review….

Monday: The testing for my youngest son’s reading went really well. The good news is that he loves the place, so that will make “going” a lot easier. Wednesday we go back to find out the results and to find out how much of a commitment this will be. Today middle son won his basketball game again (no last minute shots this time =); Saturday is tournament time.

Worked on oldest son’s paper on the Hurricane of 1928, I know more about that hurricane than any hurricane that happened in my lifetime! And for middle son’s science fair project, we had to bring in our “science fair plants”. It was like the weather KNEW we were trying something with plants, and then Florida decided to have its deep freeze. They seem to still be alive, which is an accomplishment in this household, so that is a good thing. Taking a bath, going to read a good book, and going to bed early. The laundry can wait another day.

Tuesday: Today was a crazy day. I was busy at work, then had a hair apt, then came home and tried to tackle Mt. Laundry. Does this laundry ever end? Also son and I, plugged away at the Hurricane of 1928. Hubby came home after doing a difficult task of letting a young girl go (someone he liked) but they “being the powers that be in the main office” decided to hire a permanent administrative assistant for this satellite office. I ended up snapping at him, because I felt the “powers that be in the main office” always are stepping on his toes, and are not allowing him to be “Office Manager”. He snapped back and stuck up for them. I made a bad situation worse. I guess it is just like with my kids, when I see an injustice (in my opinion) the mother & wife bear comes out. I know the powers that be, do have the ultimate say, I know hubby was right in sticking up for them, but it still made me angry. It frustrates me too, because manly man is so overworked with so many projects and they can not seem to hire any new project managers. I guess I should be really blessed that he has “too much” work, instead of “not enough” or no work at all. We have been in that situation and do not want to go back anytime soon. The influence of a woman is a big deal. The rest of the night manly man was snappy at the kids, and I know it all stems from my reaction to his bad situation. Sometimes, someone just needs to duck tape my mouth.

Wednesday: I got the test results back from my youngest son being tested. I guess it should not be a shocker that he scored what I thought he would score…below average. My life now has suddenly become busier. We will now be going to tutoring every Monday and Wednesday for 2 hours each after school. Sometimes I laugh and think, “how much more can I fit in my schedule”. But this tutoring is a gift from the grandparents. This tutoring is not cheap, and I broke down and cried when I saw how much they paid. I am blessed with such a loving family. My Mother in law said, “No problem, just think of it as early college education!”

Thursday: I got to run away from home for awhile and do some shopping. I got my white frame (Barb..) and I did what you suggested. I got an inexpensive one, and painted it white. Now I am just waiting for the picture to arrive from www.art.com . I can not wait. Thursday night was one of the nights it began to really rain here. I am not going to go into to much detail due to this being the wide world web and all, but if you watched any sort of news this week and it talked about Florida, let me say sometimes things hit “too close to home”. I am safe, my home is safe, but I can not say that about everything around me. My middle schooler did not have school on Friday, and most likely will not have it on Monday.

Friday & Saturday: We pretty much stayed home, could not drive around town to much. I wanted to paint, but it was humid and still raining outside. Painting in that weather is a big “no-no”. One awesome thing did happen on Friday, I found out I get to travel to Phoenix at the end of April to watch my sweet niece while brother and his wife head to Italy (ok, that is a whole other post of things unfair in life, but hey I love him and yes I am jealous). But I get the joy of teaching his daughter lots of fun stuff while they are gone, like blowing bubbles while eating at the same time. Hehehe….

I am really getting addicted to my Photoshop I got for Christmas now that I am getting the general idea of how to “Digital Scrapbook”. Like I need another addicting thing in my life, ha! I am almost done reading my book Anne Perry “Twisted Root”. If you have not read any of her books, she is a great author.

Posting for me is going to be hit and miss, with the extra stuff in my life I will post when I have time. Some weeks it will be regular, some week maybe not so regular. It is a balance issue you know. But know I will always be reading my bloglines, I so appreciate reading everyone. Many of you are such a blessing to my spiritual life you will never know, anyways…thank you. (and there are so many more I have not linked to)

And if you have read this far down, good Lord how sweet you are to read my ramblings. I pray you have a great week. Don’t forget:

Oh my. I'm coming in late. All I can say is, you're a blessing to all of us, Laurel!

I like this post! I love the way you just completely recapped your week. I wondered about the bad weather I saw on the news and how close it was to you. Thank goodness you all came through it OK.

Goodness, I can't comment on everything you said here but I will say those grandparents are a blessing and I like their "early college" attitude. And I've got four Anne Perry books waiting for me to finish up the Mitford series. I got them on your recommendation, something you posted ages ago, so thank you for that.

This is a great way to catch up when you can't post very often.

    Laurel,

I just enjoy you so much. I am home alone now, with another sinus infection flu like thing, and feeling a bit lonely without the family around...and you are like a friend whose popped in for a visit. Thanks, Jesus!

I need duck tape for my mouth, too. Here's an idea...we need to grab ourselves a role and leave it out in plain site, all the time. Maybe the kitchen counter or by the front door. Maybe even some clip art on our blog. We can be the "duck tape club"...hee, hee!

    Love and prayers,
    Elisa

Such a great update. I loved the "week in review." I need to write those each week, whether I blog them or not, I think. Hm.

Before you duct tape your mouth, repeat the following: "I am *such* a good wife and mother." I hope you said it so your ears could hear it because that's what I was thinking about you throughout your whole post. Truly.

And you KNOW you'll do the same as your in-laws are doing (and more) for your grandkids someday. I just think it's precious.

That picture is really gorgeous. Good luck with painting your frame. Glad you were safe from the storm. Have a great week and take it easy!

What a wonderful post "Week in Review" - something to consider to do. But then again - I already spend too much time on my PC...
I am so glad that your son has the opportunity to get some reading tutoring -- very generous of your in-laws to pay for it.
You know, I have learned to just let my husband tell me what has happened in the office and bite my tongue if I was ready to say something (took me some years though :))
I didn't knew you painted - how cool is that!
I am looking forward to your Arizona trip -- maybe we can meet for lunch :) - that would be so cool. I am sure we can work something out.
Thank you for the link :)...

Blessings on your Sunday and always.

Wow, you've been busy! I'm glad you were untouched by the weather, and I am saying prayers for those who were not so lucky.
By the way, I have duct tape and I'll tape your mouth if you tape mine. I have the same problem and try to be remember NOT to say things that may make things worse, but sometimes I fail (like yesterday when I was stressed about older boys party). My hubbys bosses have a tendancy to be bullies and I say things out of bounds to stick up for him too and sometimes I make things worse. We just want to protect. I'm praying that we can both be silently supportive. Hope you have a blessed week!
