Monday Meanderings

by Lori

It is finally cold for Florida standards, and personally I love it. I do not want to go into summer/hurricane season without feeling like I had NO winter at all. Thankfully it was beautiful Saturday, the day of my garage sale. The sale went very well, thank you for asking. I sold half of it and donated the rest of it. After I left the donation place, I drove straight over to Lowe’s and bought some primer and a can of paint.

I have (well had) one wall in my bedroom that was sponge painted different colors. I liked it, but I doubt when selling a house it is good idea to leave it that way. So I primed the wall Saturday afternoon (yes after the garage sale, yes I was crazy and very tired). Then after church on Sunday I painted the wall the same color as the rest of the walls. Now I just have the trim to do. So much to do, so little time. I try to only keep the “next step” in mind so I don’t get overwhelmed. Manly man has been putting a lot of hours in at work, so I have been left to ‘get the house ready to sell’.

Tomorrow is my youngest son’s skills assessment test for reading. I am excited about this new adventure. We are right in the middle of conducting our science fair experiment for middle son, and oldest son has a large paper due at the beginning of February.

Also, basketball is going full force. I have to brag a little bit so indulge me…. Middle son, who does not care for basketball to much, has really blossomed this year. So much so, that for three games in a row (THREE!) he was the one to make the game winning shot. One game it was after triple over-time. I tell ya, this is stuff that sends a Mother to the hospital. Triple overtime about killed me. But talk about exciting.

So we get in the car and I said, “So when did ‘kick-butt’ son decide to show up?” My quick witted middle son replied, “Well ‘kick-butt son shows up on the court, ‘lazy son’ shows up at school.” I laughed my head off at his come back. But then said, well if you get to lazy in school, there will be no basketball. I don’t have to worry too much with this one; he is in the gifted classes and aces whatever he does. (and NO he did not get that from me, but from his smart daddy!).

I am going to be taking a bit of a break this week. I am weary; I have a lot going on with the kids and with the house, therefore that translates into “too many ball in the air at one time.” I will be visiting and commenting on blogs, because you guys help me keep my sanity, and I will be here via email. But it may be a little on the “slow side this week” on my own blog.

Hope you have a great week.

Aren’t you just loving this cold snap!!!!! It actually rained all night last night and the wind was just a howlin’ outside our bedroom window..I loved it!!!! I did open all the windows to air out the house today…started to smell too much like our guinea pig ;) …but now the heat is turned up!! Try not to put too much on your plate this week that is unnecessary..it will help keep things in perspective..I will be praying for you through the week for peace of mind and zero panic attacks ;)

Linda January 28, 2007 at 6:46 pm

I will miss you Laurel. I enjoy visiting you every day. I do understand about the “stuff” that must get done.
I miss those days of basketball games and sitting in the stands cheering like a lunatic. When our youngest son graduated from high school we were lost. Nowhere to go on friday night (and so many nights in between). It’s so much fun. Enjoy it.
Take care. You will be missed.

you are one busy lady – I don’t know how you keep up with everything.
I’ll be praying for you.

Hope you have a wonderful week and get caught up on things. Congratulations to your son the basketball. And good luck to your younger son with his skills assessment. I’ll be praying for you this week. Say a prayer for me if you get a chance. Hubby is on a 5 day business trip so it’s just me and the boys:)

I’m so glad the sale went well. To get back and start painting…where do you find the energy?! I could sure use some after this week!

The story of your son playing basketball made me smile. This is the first year my son hasn’t had the look of sheer terror (aka please don’t throw the ball at me!). He’s finally having fun!

Enjoy your break and get some rest! I’ll be praying for good results on the assessment. Our second review comes up on the 6th.

I totally understand – with that much going on, it is hard to keep up with writing and reading…Although I am going to miss your encouraging and fun blog posts this week…

Blessings on your week – praying that all will go well with the house sales.

How interesting is that, that we are in the same “overwhelmed” boat! I’ll be praying for you this week as I strive to catch a breath of fresh air, too.

Our thing isn’t selling a house or basketball, but just it is probably just as crazy. My oldest (only 7) is in a high school theater production in two weeks, so rehearsal is kicking into high gear and the grandparents are descending to see her debut. Plus, I’m speaking to and hosting two different groups of teenage girls this week. Pray for God to be at work in me and through me! It couldn’t be crazier! Thank the Lord for His strength!

Blessings and love,
Elisa

We, too, are painting and packing (for a possible move). I mentioned a bit about it on my blog today. (Okay, I didn’t mention the move part. I guess I just did that here, LOL)

I’m praying for you this week; that you’ll be able to draw on His strength to do the things that need to get done, and that He will supernaturally multiply your 5 loaves (weekdays) and 2 fish (weekend days)and make them abundant!

Love ya!

Beckie January 29, 2007 at 11:35 am

WHEW! You are one busy lady~boys will do that to ya. Middle son is very quick-witted~bet he gets that from you!

I have a good friend who migrated here to Oregon from Florida…she LOVES winters here!
(A little too much rain and clouds for me, but I do like that snap in the air!)
I;m glad your yard sale went well. It’s funny for me to think about those here in the dead of winter! But if you get a chance, I just posted the meme you did on fuuny, serious and ugly of our posts, and you might get a kick out of the yard sale story! :)

Enjoy your blogging breather and have a great week!

Blessed Assurances January 29, 2007 at 1:27 pm

Wow! You have made me tired with your to-do list! So glad your son is enjoying basketball-it’s my favorite sport too! I was never good when I played though-I was a great bench warmer though! Enjoy your blogland vacation. Susan

Shalee January 29, 2007 at 2:04 pm

Yeah for kick-butt boy! He’s quite the witty man.

Get lots of stuff done, LW. We understand the deadline that you are under now.

Heather Smith January 29, 2007 at 6:03 pm

Yay for all your sons!! The cold snap here is REALLY cold, but like you, I want some sort of winter!! Don’t get to tired out with your busy schedule!

Heather January 29, 2007 at 11:07 pm

Praying that He blesses all you do this week. Have a great break and find some time for some acutal rest in there someplace. I have been prayerfully considering something similar just because of thins around here right now. We’ll see. My prayers are with you.

Daughter Awaken! January 30, 2007 at 7:54 am

Stay strong Sister!! Painting, purging, and cleaning is weary, weary work! Be very gentle with yourself this week. Thank you for your prayers, they are felt! Find comfort and peace in our Lord who holds us in His hands.

Lisa January 30, 2007 at 11:07 am

I pray God’s peace and presence will be your strength this week!

“Let the beloved of the Lord rest secure in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the Lord loves rests between his shoulders.” Deut. 33:12

May He be your shield as you rest secure in Him!

Carol January 30, 2007 at 1:08 pm

Enjoy your break. I’m starting to feel the need for one myself (she says as she plans her next post).

Tracey, in MI January 30, 2007 at 3:09 pm

I think our Middle sons sound rather similar;)

cheering with you!

Darlene January 30, 2007 at 5:02 pm

Oh, what an awesome kid. I’d be bragging too. Enjoy your quiet time.

Barb January 31, 2007 at 7:47 pm

Good grief! With all that going on, you don’t have time to worry about posting. Sounds like things are crazy busy there (but nice). Be as kind to yourself as you can right now. We’ll be here when you get back.
