Recently I wrote a post about being a Proverbs 31 woman with a crooked halo. I told you I am in the process of becoming more organized but have not arrived. Let me introduce you to Professional Organizer, Beverly Coggins. I had the wonderful opportunity to review her seven mini books on organization for Christian Women Online.     I went to the site you linked to, about Beverly's new release. What struck me most was her mention of the millions of baby boomers reaching retirement age in the next 2 decades. My husband and I have inherited family heirlooms from both sides of our families - some large and some small. For me personally, having items I remember seeing at my grandparents' homes comforts me in a special way, as I moved halfway across the country after graduating high school 35 or so years ago, leaving my entire family behind. Seeing these familiar items does for my heart what comfort food does for my stomach. However, one only needs so many sets of dishes or antique washstands or whatever, before the home becomes overly full of what is now "stuff". I don't recall exactly when "sparsely furnished" turned into a possible entry for the "Clean House" show, but there it is!

    Beverly is correct in stating that there is an increasing need for organizers to help people downsize, but I think it's not just to downsize into a smaller residence. Some of us need it simply to be able to move around in the home we already have!

    What a fantastic giveaway - I LOVE coffee! (have a coffee-themed kitchen!). I have not read the book but it sounds very interesting. I like that she is including a CD with a bunch of forms and a DVD with "proven techniques and methods needed for downsizing". Talk about comprehensive!

My office is moving, we're going from leasing to owning and we have grown from 5 to 16 employees in the last several years so we need more space. Now - how to keep from buying too much "stuff" for that space... Maybe a good tip or two in her book.

  • Well, it is a guide to downsizing a business. Now, I have no business experience, so that probably isn't the book I would need, but I'm sure there are many folks out there that could use a good plan.

    I have been drinking coffee all summer (which is odd for me, I usually skip coffee in the hot months, but I need the caffeine this year) but I LOVE drinking hot drinks when the weather gets cooler.

  • I had to chuckle at this too as far as the baby boomers go and all the stuff over the years they have collected, I laugh because my mother is in her 60's and she is trying to down size her stuff so she is sending it all to us kids....lol my poor kids will then have to suffer when I go to pass my stuff to them Ha Ha....     Beverly's books have been a tremendous asset to me over the past several months. I have several already, and I can tell that this new one about becoming a Down-sizing professional consultant would be very helpful. For one reason, I need it myself. For another reason, the people I minister to are poor and living in very small, cramped quarters. I think if I were to get her latest book it may help me to create a new evening class for our folks.
