I just read an article the other day that, “Lakes of methane have been spotted on Saturn’s largest moon, Titan, boosting the theory that this strange, distant world bears beguiling similarities to Earth, according to a new study.” (here)
The Earth’s crust contains huge amounts of methane. “They believe the lakes prove that Titan has a “methane cycle” — a system that is like the water cycle on Earth, in which the liquid evaporates cools and condenses and then falls as rain, replenishing the surface liquid.” (here)
Do you ever feel like things are happening around you that just seem very overwhelming? I know I do. I am at home trying to pack for my intending move later this year. I am trying to make my house look presentable and attractive so someone else would feel blessed to live there. At the same time that I am doing all this they are finding methane on Saturn’s moon, Titan. The first woman becomes Speaker of the House, and the first swearing in for Congress with a Koran instead of the Holy Bible. And Iran is stating their Islamic Messiah could come as early as this spring, which means “the leaders of Iran are preparing for an apocalyptic war with the U.S. and Israel. It’s not a question of “if” but “when.” (Joel Rosenberg) This is all overwhelming to me. I can not even begin to wrap my brain around stuff that is happening. Thank God I have a God who is more powerful, who knows EVERYTHING that is going on.
The perfectionist in me wants to yell…STOP! You have it all wrong; we as a Nation are on the wrong path. Don’t you see it?
God never changes even though things change around us. So I ask are you one of His? Do you believe Christ came and died for you? Things are going to get pretty scary here in the future, no matter who is in leadership. But with God we have all we need. If you have any questions, or any doubts please click here.
He Promises
By Sarah Hoeck
From Genesis to Revelation
there are promises throughout
the rainbow reminds us
what it’s all about
Everything is possible through God
He’ll take you as his own
and when you are in trouble
He’ll throw you more than just a bone
He promises that He’s holy
that He’ll fight for you
He promises to do miracles
(read Exodus, you know it’s true)
He promises you eternal life
He’ll punish those who sin
He promises anyone can be saved
but you’ve got to let Him in
He has a plan for you and
He promises to come soon
although we don’t know
if in the morning, night, or noon
He won’t be like people
He’ll keep his promises to the end
God’s promises are different
from the ones told by your friends
For, if God promises
something to you or me
we can count on it
because it’s guaranteed
Today is the last day to add to New Year’s Meditations, I will announce the winner of the gift certificate tomorrow. Blessings.

I too have trouble wraping my brain around it all too and yet I know I cannot ignore what is going on. But I am thankful for His promises and the gentle reminder to remain focused on what truly matters in this life.
This is why I love knowing that God is omnipotent and omnipresent. He is created the methane gas cycle and knew the exact day it would be discovered, just as He always sovereignly allows any discoveries that are made. He has stood by throughout the millenia as rulers have pledged to false gods, and knows exactly how much longer He will allow it before every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. He has been present during every war and appoints which empires will rule and for how long. The fact that He is supreme over all of that… and still notices me, tucked away in my little house in 2007, and He faithfully sets my feet on a rock and strenghtens me as I try my best to minister to those in my life… astounds me. It makes me think back to Christmas. SO much was swirling all around in the governments, commerce, and world empires… but there was that tiny baby in a manger. God with us.
I find at these times it’s really important for me to get more in the Word to retain my focus on God. If I focus on all the “stuff” going on, it becomes scary. But when I focus on the God who created this whole universe and knows everything going on, then my perspective is changed to one of faith.
it can be overwhelming, as soon as we take our eyes off of Him.
I am so thankful to serve a God who is in control and is just and Holy.
Cyndi’s last line above, is beautiful. Blessings,

I rarely watch the evening news any more, LW. The last time I made an exception and did, I saw Saddam Hussein being led to the gallows. I didn’t need to see that.
I try to stay abreast of the big items by reading my opening AOL news page throughout the day.
The world is a scarey place. But really, it always has been. Reading Francine Rivers’ Mark of the Lion trilogy earlier this fall made me realize how terrifying our world was when Rome controlled everything.
Hadassah is the perfect example of how an unwaivering faith in God and constant prayer will carry you through the scariest of times.
I do feel that so much is happening around me that I can’t wrap my mind around. I do feel like things are spinning out of control in this world (not the 1st lady speaker of the house, even if I don’t agree with her policy). I feel like as a people not only are we on the wrong path, but it ended at a cliff and we are jumping off in droves. I think all we can do is pray. Pray and keep our focus on what really matters. God. He will get us through. No matter what happens, it is all about and all for God. I think it helps if we pray for each other too. I’m praying for you. That you don’t get too overwhelmed by it all.
Cling to Jesus, is all I can say.
I get extremely overwhelmed too, and sometimes it is before I even get out of bed!!!!!!
Wow, Laurel, thank you for the all information. You are right - this is overwhelming…I am glad that I have received Christ’s as my Savior and don’t have to worry about His return…I am READY as I can be, but I think there is still a lot to be done - like witnessing to a fallen world.
Excellent post and exhortation to trust in the Lord and be ready!
We are living in amazing times. I don’t know if it is just my age, but a part of me cries out “Even so, come Lord Jesus.” However, as you so poignantly point out, we need to be concerned for those who don’t know Him.
Wonderful post.
I get overwhelmed when I think of it all. I am just glad that God understands it all, even when I don’t. He is in control, even when the world is not. I just have to trust in that.
