In “Other” Words…

“No distinction was made between the sacred and the everyday…their life was all one piece. It was all sacred
and all ordinary.”

How do you live your life as a Christian? Have you stopped and thought about what you do during your daily routine? Many people believe worship is what we do when we enter church (the singing, the readings, the learning). I suggest that worship is everything you do during your day.

Ephesians 5:1-2 says

“…live a life of love just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God”.

And in Romans 12:1-2 God asks that your entire body becomes a living sacrifice for Him. This means everything you do; your daily routine becomes an act of worship.

My Saturdays are taken up by football. We have to get up at 7am (did you hear me say it was Saturday), and be at the ball field by 8am. I make sure all the uniforms are cleaned, the pads are transferred to the game day pants (this is for 3 kids), and their shirts are ready to go. I then fill a cooler up with tons of water bottles and healthy snacks because we are there for three football games in a row (did I mention what time I had to get up at on a Saturday morning?).

Hubby is getting the tent we use into the car, and getting all the football pads for all three boys into the car. He takes the boys to the field, and I am off to get my coffee and bags of ice for the cooler (did I mention I do all this before coffee on a Saturday morning?).

We arrive on the field, set up the tent, set up all the chairs, place the cooler out and get ready to sit for 8 hours in the warm Florida heat (with no breeze). Christ says to be a living sacrifice in all things, and offer up a “fragrant offering …to God”. This is my everyday Saturday for the next few months, I do it gladly. I very easily could complain about getting up, I could gripe about all the “extra” responsibilities placed on me.

A person could say I do it because I love my kids, and while that is a true statement. I do it because I love God, I chose for my attitude to be pleasing to him (even before coffee), I chose to do these things as my worship to God. Here is where the sacred (worshiping God) is rolled into the everyday. I want everything I do; from doing laundry to the big things of giving up all of my Saturday’s to be pleasing to God

Greater love hath no Mom than this... in Florida heat, no less... BEFORE coffee!

I love your blog design, by the way. I think I'd come back just for the art work.

That is such an awesome post. :) Yeah, I do many things do before I get my first cup of java - and some days I am really gracious about it - other days - well, not so good. When I start getting an attitude - I think that it I do it because of my love for Him...
Thanks again for the reminder that worship is not just our Sunday morning, but our everyday life :)

There IS a 7 in the morning?!?!?!

Thank you for sharing this. What an impression can be made too on the children, living for Jesus, with ALL we do.

You make a great point. We are able to truly love our kids only because of our love for God. Even that is a gift from Him. Cheers for you for seeing that your early Sat. ams are a form of worship. xoxo

Amen. Amen. AMEN! God doesn't ask for our Sundays; our Sundays are supposed to be support and edification for all the remaining days of the week. Letting God have all parts makes it possible to "rejoice without ceasing."

    Beautiful post, Laurel.

It's amazing how our attitudes and outlooks change when we allow Him to come into EVERYTHING we do! Even the most mundane and rituatlistic chore becomes something more worth doing, more worth celebrating and more worth a smile upon our faces! Great post!
