BFF Award

The BFF award is awarded to people who I feel will be my blog friend forever, these ladies inspire me, challenge me and encourage me so much.

Crystal at God Is In Control Not Me said:

Laurel Wreath - She is always so encouraging and positive, I am so grateful for a blog friend like her. Thanks Laurel for your support and encouragement. Laurel is also a facebook friend and her devotionals are always so inspiring.

Thank you so much Crystal, I don’t even know how to respond to such nice words. All you see good in me is because of HIM, all you see bad is because of ME =))

  • Angie at The Knighly News does not let me stay in my pity parties to long and she is such an encouraging friend to me. I wish sometimes I had the gift of encouragement like she does, but I will just stand close by hoping some of it will rub off.

  • Iris at Sting My Heart, even though she is on a blog break I can not talk about BFF’s without mentioning her. Everything is all her fault ;) She is a BFF in all areas of my life, and such a powerful prayer warrior for me. I am blessed to have her part of my life.

  • Darlene at CWO, if it is not all Iris’ fault then the rest is Darlene’s fault, hehe.. Between the two of them they have allowed me to dream further than I could dream by myself. With Darlene’s enouragement she has helped me step out of my comfort zone and has given me a platform to allow God work through me (either by writing devotions, reviewing books, or doing interviews). She saw something in me that I did not believe was there. Thanks my friend.

  • Also anyone who visits me here, or Internet Cafe, or Laced With Grace or Book Buzz, each one of you is a BFF because without your enouragement and comments I would feel very lonely. I want what I do to make a difference for Him. If I ever feel like I am doing these things just for me, that is the day I stop. But when I know what I do encourages, speaks to, ministers to another than it is all worth it. May He get all the glory.

    Chores I dislike~Mopping my floors

Essential Electronics~My laptop, coffee pot, I-Pod, curling iron.

    Perfume~Eternity =)

Gold or Silver~funny you should ask, I am getting into the “wearing both” at the same time. Not that I wear a lot of jewelry.

Insomnia~Sometimes when I am worried or stressed, or scared or God is talking to me.

Job Title~Short order cook, dishwasher, laundry person, toilet cleaner, Mother, Taxi driver, referee, Wife, Devotional writer, book review, tooooo many to list =)

Most Admired Trait~Ok I dislike thinking nice things about myself, but I guess I would have to say I have a big heart. Sometimes I think of that as a curse instead of a trait =)

Kids~Oldest child, 13; Middle child 12; youngest child 9. Like their names? Manly man and I thought long and hard on them, heehee.

Phobia~Spiders, someone breaking into my home, losing my husband to death, etc..

Unusual talent/skill~I can multi task like nobodys business…..oh you can do that too? You must be a mother!

    Vegetable I refuse to eat~peas.

Worst habit~Self critical, and always doubting.

X-rays~What kind of question is this??? I guess with my jaw surgery that was my last x-ray.

    What you want more???

I was tagged by Iris at Sting my Heart

    Five-things-you-didn’t-know-about-me meme

    1. Daisies are my favorite flower. Don’t care for roses.

    2. I fell in love with a boy in third grade, and loved him until he broke up with me our first year of college. What is funny is that this was in Arizona and we both ended up living in Florida. He will always be a friend, but we have not talked for a over 2 years.

    3. I took sign language for 4 years in college. It got to the point I dreamed in sign language. Unfortunately, it is a talent if you don’t use it you lose it.

    4. I am moving. OK I KNOW EVERYONE IN BLOGVILLE KNOWS THAT. But do you know I am dreaming about these five acres we found close to town. I really doubt it will be a reality but it would sure blow my mind if it worked out. In my wildest dreams, I only dreamed in one acre increments =), and even that would blow my mind. But it is fun to dream.

    5. I am signed up to take a Theology class at church beginning Feb 7th. I am so excited.

Boy that was harder than I thought, because you know, I tell you guys everything =)

Oh yeah, I am going to tag Erica, Gibee, and Jessica

    Answers To Your Questions:

Filed under About Me, Blog, Immediate

Yesterday I said you guys could ask me anything in celebration of my birthday (which is today the 19th). You guys made me use my brain, here are answers to your questions. I will add more if more come in.

Oh and guess what I am having tonight, since I can not have my birthday cheesecake (due to jaw surgery).

    from Sonic

What is your idea, if no holds barred allowed, what is the ideal date with your hubby?

Anytime I have him all to myself with no kids. Seriously we have been married for 13 years, and it was not until THIS summer that we took the first vacation (just the two of us). We did not have a honeymoon. He took me to Savannah, GA. And to me it was the best time I have ever had in my life, and we renewed not only why he is my best friend but why he is my lover for life also. It was a no holds barred several days.

What is your most favorite comfort food?

I have to pick one? I will have to go with the oldie but goodie…..chocolate. Specifically Dove Dark Chocolate little bars. My mother in law got me hooked on them. They are a perfect sweet treat after dinner. That is if you can eat just one =)

    Do you dread turning 40?
Yum, yes. Do I want to turn 40, oh yes I want to be here to see my grandchildren and possibly great grandchildren (not at 40 yrs old mind you, that would be a little to young for my kiddies). I guess I am one that does not grow old gracefully; I fight it tooth and nail. Or in other words, facials and night creams.

What one moment in parenting do you really wish that you had a do-over?

There are so many moments, because I am soooo NOT perfect. Lets see. When my (who shall remain namless child) was younger made an off color remark to a girl. I was mortified, but unfortunately I was too worried about how it would make me look as a parent instead of wondering why he said what he said. How I have learned now =)

Knowing your kids as they are right now, what do you think they’ll be doing as a career in their future?Oldest, Youth Pastor

Middle, Civil Engineer or Computer Engineer

    Youngest, Engineer

What is your most proud (in a good sense) moment as a Christian- something that you feel that God looked at your doing and smiled?

When I gave my testimony to a group of high school girls. I was terrified (with a capital T), and once I began the Holy Spirit just took over. What is funny, is I really don’t remember it to well (except beginning and then how I felt when it was over). I was sooo excited I could not even go to sleep that night.

What’s your favorite color? Mine’s “blue– NO! RED!! Ahhhhh….” (Name the movie and you win one of the donut holes I’m eating. I, of course, will eat it in your honor.)

I give up, if it is not from Star Wars then I don’t know =)

What writer has most influenced you in your walk with Christ?

Besides Angela Hunt who wrote “Do you Think I am Beautiful” (she had me sobbing through the pages)

I would say Francine Rivers, Mark of the Lion series. That series changed the way I prayed, helped me to see what stepping out in faith means.

What person in general has been your best mentor?

I have been blessed with many(no certain order) Mom, Grandmother, Gladys Hagen (with Jesus right now), Dad. Each taught me something different, but something I carry with me everyday.

As for some one I don’t know personally, Beth Moore bible studies have changed my life.

    What is your earliest memory?

By the way I take obedience class from Mojo =) My earliest memory is, there was a boy named Chris in 1st grade who was my best friend. We hung out all the time. He invited me to spend the night at his house. I was so excited I ran to my Mom and asked her (knowning she would say yes, because it was a friend), but she said NO. I could not understand, I am sure I threw a fit. But it really stuck with me. BTW that sweet boy Chris grew up to ask me to Prom, I turned him down (big mistake). Now he is now married and has children.

What is your favorite fiction book and your favorite non-fiction book, excluding The Bible?

Fiction: I would have to say The Mark of the Lion Series by Francine Rivers

Non-Fiction: (I don’t read to many of these) but I guess “Beyond The Gates of Splendor” which I read as a teenager.

Is that too conservative for you? Nope

Okay, when I turned 36 I wanted to do a complete makeover. If you could dispose of your current wardrobe what would be the first item you would replace it with…something that says …this is me, 36 and lovin’ it!!

Well on the show “What Not To Wear” they have a sign that says no mini skirts after 35, well big bummer !!!! (and I am kidding)

Hmm I think I would like to get something like this:

That says “I still have it baby!!!”

If you could give some advice for a new mom of a son.. what would it be?!? I wanted to ask you this question because you are such a wonderful person and wonderful mom… and I would LOVE to know some of your secrets :)

    1. Buy lots of scented stuff, because your sweet boy will not always smell that sweet =)

    2. If your child hits, bites, cuss’, or does something totally contrary to the way you raised him, do not take it personally, nor does it reflect the type of mother you are. Use them as “teachable lessons”

    3. Boys are different than girls, girls like to spend time talking, boys like to spend time “doing” things.

    4. Let your boy be a boy, he will pick up sticks and pretend they are a gun, help them relate to the “heros” of life, they like to feel like the “knight in shinning amour”.

I could continue, but it would be a whole another post.

What are your hobbies? I guess reading is the closest thing to a hobby, but I do enjoy the computer also. I love learning new things. The next thing I want to learn is Photoshop.

Any instruments you play? Unfortunately no, I have always wanted to learn piano. I always said I was going to do that after my kids move out. We will see.

How’d you meet your husband?Hubby and I went to the same 4 year college (go Wildcats)… we lived in the same co-ed dorm. Boys on one side, girls on the other. Well I am going to cheat on this question and say there is a whole post on this one HERE.

What is the best thing about having boys?

This could be a post in itself, but I would have to say they are not petty like girls. They make me laugh. They treat me like a Queen (since I am the only female in the house). I just love to watch them play, to give it their all, to be competitive; but yet, have a tender heart, to cry when I am upset, and to come give me hugs. This gives me an idea for a post =)

    About Me

“This is your first child, you have all the time in the world, the Doctor said. “Take some walks around the block, and call me when your water breaks.” Laurel never did things according to schedule from the time she was born, arriving sooner than the Doctor thought! The Lord had big plans for her, and she is always ready for the next step in life.

Laurel met her husband in Arizona. He was a military brat going to the University and she was just a “regular brat,” so they connected right away; they married in their senior year of college.

Life hit her hard; new baby, her husband’s new job, small apartment, very little money to live on. There was no direct family support; while going through days of depression, loneliness, and homesickness. But the Lord was with her through it all. Laurel learned to lean on the Lord in a mighty way. They currently live in Small Town, Florida and recently celebrated 13 years of marriage. Laurel graduated from college with a communication degree; she was also a childcare provider in her home for several years, a pre-school teacher, middle school PTA treasurer, and currently she is an Office Assistant working only when her kids are in school.

Laurel has a house full of boys; three to be exact, however, if you add her husband, the cat and the dog, testosterone runs rapid. Being greatly outnumbered; she loves female conversation anywhere she can get it! Laurel will does officially have a teenager this year, so life is bringing more adventures and challenges.

With a heart for women, she finds it a privilege to remind women today that God is deeply in love with them. No matter what you have done, no matter where you have been God loves you right where you are with His agape love.

The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.”~ Zephaniah 3:17

The laurel crown is perishable, but the true believers shall recieve the crown of glory which will never fade away

1 Peter 5:4 “…you will receive the unfading crown of glory. ”

I hang on to these words for several reasons:

    1. I am a mother to three boys (near the teen years), I have to know even on the bad days my crown is not going to be tossed aside.

    2. This is where my names sake comes from, so I believe it is a reminder to me from the Lord.
