Boys, Mohawks, and bikers…

First off I want to thank everyone for their sweet comments (public and private) on this post. I don’t feel like a good Mom at the moment but your encouragement and support really, really helped my mood ;) Oldest son is spending two days at “Camp Grandpa’s” (should I mention Grandpa is a retired Col. ;) I am blessed with supportive family on both sides of my family!

To make matters worse in my eyes, but not in the rest of the family’s eyes…my other two sons (middle and youngest) went to get a hair cut with Dad. Lets just say it is a repeat of this…

No I am NOT happy they got mohawks. But I guess I have to pick and chose my battles as these boys grow up. (insert big sigh)

Can I just vent how I dislike how they have bike week in my area every Valentines. It makes it almost near impossible to go to a restaurant, even driving around town is scary with tons of bikes. I don’t mind bike week, it is kind of fun to see the different kind of motorcycles. But does it really need to be around Valentines? Also the race is in town. We are probably the only people here who could care less, but that on top of bike week makes me want to stay home and read a good book. It’s good for tourism, blah, blah, blah…. yeah, but I can not even make it to the grocery store! Ok rant is over…. I feel a little bit better.

Well better head to bed. Tomorrow is a new day, and I know … He tells me so

See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the desert
and streams in the wasteland. Isa 43:19

This same verse was the same one I used as my Precious Promise this last week. It was also the verse I chose to read this morning in church before singing “God will make a way”.

Resting with you in the reminder of His word that promises newness in the areas that seem impossible!

Hoping tomorrow starts off a wonderfully fabulous week for you!

I hope “camp Grampa” is good for both of you. Maybe some time apart is a good thing. The mohawks would totally freak me out. But your guy looks really cute with one so I might be ok with it ;) My hubby has a bike and although he just LOVES it, I find it loud and scary. It’s His hobby not mine. Bike week in our town wouldn’t really thrill me either. I’m sending you hugs and lots of mommy patience and I’m keeping you all in may prayers.

I love the idea of Camp Grandpa!

I would have trouble with mohawks, too — like you say, sometimes you have to pick your battles. One of mine kept wanting to get a buzz cut, but thankfully never did.

I have a little award for you today. :-)

I remember bike week. Ick. My grandmother spent every winter there and would complain every year about bike week and how it wrecked the fun for everyone else. In her case the fun was getting to the grocery store because she spent most of her time at home baking but still. :)

I like the mohawk. Almost gave my son one but my husband said no and so did he. :) It could be worse, much worse. :) (A close friend of mine in high school had a bright blue mohawk that was heald up with glue and egg whites, several earrings and wore make up–you are doing fine. :) He was also into classsical music and classic books. :) Believe me.

I can’t say I blame you about the mohawks. My dad always cut my four brothers’ hair and I’ll never forget when he decided to give them all mohawks. They went to school on Monday and were immediately sent home. Can you believe that? Personally, I was glad because back in the early 60’s that haircut was considered very freaky. Daddy had to shave their heads to fix it. LOL My brothers went to school with shiny heads, way back when that was not cool.

It could be worse, LW. It could be worse. I agree - pick your battles and trust God to all the rest.

And your “Camp Grandpa” sounds just like what the doctor ordered! God provides in all things…

I have a camp Grandpa too, it’s great isn’t? I know exactly what you mean though, you do need to learn to pick your battles! It’s still something I am learning!
Blessings

I think you are being very wise about the haircuts. I always tried (tried mind you) to remember that it was more important what was going on on the inside than the outward appearance.
And I’m with you on the bike week thing. I went to lots of motocross races when the boys were still living at home. Great fun! (that’s just a bit of sacarasm!).

Ha, I went through long hair, no hair, bleached hair, andvery black hair with David.
Also went through huge holes in the ears, thanks to the new job at the credit union the earrings have had to go!!! But on the subject of picking your battles… I decided when he was in Jr. High not to make baggy pants a battle since I felt we had so many others going on. How was I to know at the age of 21 I would still be telling him to pull his pants up! Ha! However, I think working at the credit union is helping in that area also, it is hard to have low riding bagging dress pants. Yea for companies that have a dress code! So see Laurel you have many fun and memorable day ahead. Keep taking those pictures, they are fun to look back on AND to show future girl friends!
