How to Crack your Kids Up, Act Old

How to Crack your Kids Up, Act Old - familyLast week my two older sons and I spent a lot of quality time together. Hubby and youngest son were frolicking in Texas at the US Army All-American Bowl. I enjoyed this time with my two older boys, but I realized I am not as “hip” as I thought I was.

With each generation come their favorite slang sayings. For my generation we had:

    Gag me with a spoon
    Gnarly
    grody to the max
Holy Cow, that’s, like, totally wicked, dude.
    Where’s the beef?
    and my favorite…. PSYCH!

Trying to keep up with my sons generation and their ever changing vocabulary is a challenge. I have heard:

    Pimp
    Murk
    Git
    Tighten up
    Beast mode

Well one slipped passed me and I got caught “being old.” While attempting to get my two older boys to bed, they were goofing off with each other. I was only half  listening to them as they thought of every excuse to delay bedtime. Middle son was bragging about an accomplishment and oldest son responded, “you wanna a cookie.”

Being the hip Mom that I am, I turned around and said, “There will be no eating cookies right before bed!” My two boys immediately fell into big fits of laugher that took over 5 minutes to overcome. So I guess “you wanna a cookie” does not actually mean you want to eat a cookie. Who knew?

So what are some of the funny sayings you hear your kids saying around the house?

Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursday - thankful-thursday

I was MIA last year on Thankful Thursday and I apologize.  I am going to try to participate more this year when I have the time.

1. I am thankful my Hubby and son had a great time in Texas last week at the US Army All-American Football games.  I am also glad to have them back home!

(would help if I finished this before I hit publish, oh well those that saw this post when I only had a #1 sorry)

2. I am thankful for some of the opportunities God has been opening up for me.  I am also blessed the Lord opened the door to interview Rebecca St. James for Christian Women Online.

3. I am excited about a new bible study I am taking concerning end times.  People the Lord is coming soon, we need to be in active prayer for those that don’t know Jesus.

4. I am SO thankful football is out of my life until next August.  Today is the first basketball game my two older boys have and then my youngest has a game Saturday.  So we are in full basketball mode.

5. I am thankful I can lean on God’s promises when my mind and feelings fail me.  God takes my insecurities and turns them around to bless me.

So what are you thankful for today?  Head on over to Grace Alone and add your link.  Happy Thursday!
