Looking Back

On Wednesday of last week we began the season of lent. Lent is a forty-day period before Easter. It begins on Ash Wednesday. We skip Sundays when we count the forty days, because Sundays commemorate the Resurrection. Lent begins on February 25th, 2009 and ends on April 11th, 2009, which is the day before Easter. This is a season for reflection.

Personally I feel like I got a jump start on reflecting, this last month has been a month of reflection and wondering where God is leading.

In a previous “Looking Back” post I gushed about wanting to attend the Christian Book Expo.  I am very excited to have won a three day pass to the Christian Book Expo in Dallas, Tx, which is a good news/bad news type of thing.  Good news that I won the three day pass, bad news because now I have to figure out how to pay for five days in a hotel.  =)  Still not sure it is going to happen, we will see what God has planned. Of course maybe  having one girl so excited about attending that she tee tees may be enough. HA!

Here are a few great posts I have read this week:

Prodigal John shares the best marriage advice he has ever received. And I have to say, I love it!I love it when God sends me to a quick devotional that hits me between the eyes. God calls us to do the impossible!

Michael Hyatt of Thomas Nelson Publishers gives you his impression of the Kindle 2.  I think I know what will be on my Christmas list next year.

Boy I have lived this sentence, “The good would make me get all puffed up, and the bad would make me internalize untruth.” See what Anne Jackson is doing for Lent.  And I have to admit my jealous of the bloggers who have the wonderful opportunity to travel to India. What a blessings.

On a related note, I don’t know if you noticed but in my navigation bar I have put a direct link to Compassion International.  I can not begin to tell you what a blessing supporting Mary has done for my heart.

Lastly, Bible Study Magazine and Mars Hill are giving away 20 copies of Mark Driscoll’s new book, Vintage Church (a great review of it here). Not only that, but they are also giving away five subscriptions to Bible Study Magazine and a copy of their Bible Study Library software! Enter to win on the Bible Study Magazine Mark Driscoll page, then take a look at all the cool tools they have to take your Bible study to the next level!

  1. I always enjoy reading your Saturday Looking Back posts, Lori. I used to read Michael Hyatt’s blog every day but haven’t been on in awhile. He’s totally changed the look. I have a Kindle 1 and love it but everyone seems to like the new one. I think it will be awhile until I get that one, which is fine with me. Mine still works just fine. But I definitely would recommend a Kindle to anyone considering it. It’s great when you travel because you don’t have to tote books and now that I’m trying to downsize it’s convenient. I have no more room for books!

  2. One time I won a mystery plane flight for a day – but I was over six months pregnant and wasn’t allowed to fly! lol. Even though I couldn’t go I still felt good about winning. ;) I was able to give my tickets to a friend. Through her reaction I realised that she needed the one day holiday much more than I did. Being able to give it to her was the blessing for both me and her ;) .
