Know and Tell Friday…

To Know Him wanted me to answer a few questions….so here it is ;) Have a great weekend.

1.What scares you? Ummm spiders, driving in heavy traffic,

2. Coke or Pepsi (Diet counts)? Neither, in fact I have not drank soda for a couple of weeks. This is a big for me. Umm Cranberry juice (that is what I am sipping right now).

3. I would love to try… Hmm (thinking here) Feed the hungry and grant world peace (Oh wait that is my Mrs America speech… sorry). Write a book.

4. Spiritually speaking, do you have a Quiet Time? If so, where, when, and how long have you had one? If not, what is stopping you from having a Quiet time? (Quiet time is defined as time alone with God. It can consist of praying, reading God’s word, and worship among many other things) For years this has been a battle for me, but now I get up at 6am Mon thru Fri for quiet time, before the hustle and bustle of the day. Before it was at my kitchen table, now it is sitting on my couch beside my Christmas tree.

A Chance to win a book and Thankful Thursday…

I only have to look to my 13 year old and know we speak a different language. Shaunti Feldhahn and Lisa A Rice who brought us the best-selling books For Women Only, For Men Only, and For Young Women Only now brings us For Parents Only: Getting Inside the head of your kid. In this book they share the results of a nationwide survey and personal interviews they did with more than 1,000 real-life teens and tweens to tackle those things parents often don’t “get” about their kids. I am a relatively young Mom of a 13 year old so I figured it has not been that long since I was a teen. I have to admit this book opened my eyes. This book does a great job defining what “We Think is Happening” versus “What’s Really Happening.”

The book addresses topics such as:

What is the most intoxicating and addictive thing your teenager seeks?

What is the best way to parent?

What can we do as parents so they don’t emotionally shut us out, but actually seek our advice?

What do they really mean when they tell you to “stop freaking out?”

These are all subjects that are addressed in this book, along with so much more. I highly recommend it, I think it will be a book I will refer back to many times. BUT BUT GUESS WHAT….you can to!!!

Multnomah Books has give me TWO COPIES TO GIVE AWAY….FOR FREE…I will announce the winner December 3rd.

If you are interested please let me know in the comments. I WILL ONLY SELECT FROM THE ONES WHO SAY THEY ARE INTERESTED.

*************************************************************

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
2 Corinthians 13:14 (ESV)

1. I am thankful that I was able to spend time with my family over Thanksgiving.

2. I am thankful that I am beginning to feel better.

3. I am thankful for cooler weather and the holiday season. I love Christmas music and decorations. Sitting beside my tree is one of my favorite things to do.

4. I am thankful that God continues to mold me and teach me daily. Without his grace I would be lost.

So what are you thankful for today? Leave your link here and be sure to visit other participants. I am thankful Iris has given me this opportunity to host Thankful Thursday.

PS be sure to mention in the comments if you are interested in winning one of the books mentioned above.

In “Other” Words…

“One reason we are so harried and hurried is that we make yesterday and tomorrow our business, when all that legitimately concerns us is today. If we really have too much to do, there are some items on the agenda which God did not put there. Let us submit the list to Him and ask Him to indicate which items we must delete. There is always time to do the will of God. If we are too busy to do that, we are too busy.”~ Elisabeth Elliott

Well it is ironic that I just wrote a devotional on this very subject, but I will not repeat myself you will have to read it at Laced With Grace next Monday. (but I will add to it ;)

Busyness is something I have struggled with and something the Lord has brought to my attention. Everything I have to do I consider important. It would not be on my list if it wasn’t. So where do I slow down? As much as my kids would love it, I can not tell the teachers “no we can not complete that project because we have other things to do at church.” Neither is eliminating my sons reading tutoring. Or cooking dinner each night, or making sure the laundry is caught up, grocery is bought, house picked up, etc… . Not to mention the busyness of the Holiday season. So where do I slow down Lord? How do you cut what is important?

The Lord stopped me in my tracks and showed me how to slow down. Much of it is attitude, but also I did not realize how burned out I was until I was sick over the Thanksgiving Holiday. The first thing the Lord had me do is sleep, sleep, sleep, sleep. I feel more refreshed than I have in awhile. Now he is showing me how to do what is important while not feeling so harried and hurried all the time. I am not totally there yet, it is a learning process, but in a strange way I am thankful I was sick and was stopped in my tracks before I burned myself out. Thank God he knows what I need even when I don’t.

How does this blogging thing work again??

I feel totally out of things right now, it is going to take me a bit to get back into routine. I did manage to get my tree up today, that is in between sleeping. I am so glad I came back from AZ on a Friday so I had the whole weekend to sleep. I want to know who prayed for my return trip. I NEVER NEVER in my life have been able to sleep on the plane, but when the plane left AZ I was out. Next thing I knew we were landing in Atlanta for our 3 hour layover. Then we got back on the plane for our one hour trip to Orlando, and I slept again!! I could not believe it. I guess it was a mixture of really not feeling well and over the counter drugs ;)

I am still very weak, I think I am fighting a sinus infection that just wears me down. But tomorrow is Monday and normal routine awaits. Back to driving here and there.

Despite things not going as planned (like being able to meet up with Iris) it was a nice visit to Arizona. I ate a lot of food, did some shopping with Mom, and got to see my SIL who is ready for her twin boys to be born and my sister who is three months pregnant. Plus all my nieces, they were so much fun to play with. The good news is I get to go back in January sometime to help with the twins when they arrive (which I kept telling them, not until after Christmas please). We will see if the boys listen ;)

I have visited almost all Thankful Thursday participants, please forgive me that it has taken me so long. Hopefully I will get back into the swing of things here soon, which means Christmas baking, Christmas shopping, etc….

Confession is good for the soul…

I am on my way home after visiting family in Arizona. I came to Arizona and all I got is SICK! Seriously, things did not go as planned, I did not have the opportunity to visit with Iris because I was feeling so poorly. My head is about to exploded if I blow my nose one more time, my throat is scratchy, and my ears hurt….oh yeah and I am flying all day tomorrow. I will admit I am a little on the nervous side, but I do have some good over the counter stuff to help me. I pray I do not leave my germs behind. I have washed and sanatized my hands until they are raw, I don’t want anyone here in AZ to get sick (or my immediate family).

If you read this and think of me, could you say a little prayer while flying. I am nervous about my ears hurting. I will be visiting all the Thankful Thursday participants after I get home, have a good nights sleep and can break free from the fog surrounding my head. These are the most consecutive coherent thoughts I have put together all week.

Hugs!

Thankful Thursday - Thanksgiving Edition

I am your host for Thankful Thursday the next four weeks. I am so excited. I do have to say, it may take me longer to get around to everyone this week because I am visiting family and eating a lot of turkey. But leave your link and when you have time also visit the participatants.

It is good to praise the LORD
and make music to your name, O Most High

Psalm 92:1 KJV

I am thankful for the friends that I have made in blog world.

I am thankful that our family is growing by 3 nephews and one to be determined in this next year.

I am thankful my sister will be having a baby. A baby we thought she would never be able to carry. I still stand in wonder of God’s planning and grace.

I am thankful I am Mom to three great boys, who keep me hopping.

I am thankful that God never leaves.

I am well provided for, I have clothes to wear, food to eat, and material possessions galore. I am thankful for God’s provisions.

So what are you thankful for this Thanksgiving Day?
