Couldn’t possilby think of a title for this story…..

by Laurel on August 20, 2007

Baked beans. My oldest son loves to have baked beans as a snack. Don’t ask me why, but I figure they are a good source of protein for a football growing boy, so I don’t complain.

Well until now.

I came home from work and oldest son and middle son ran outside to toss the football around before we had to leave again. He was outside only a total of 30 mins at the most. I left home to run youngest son to his tutoring lesson which is approximately 15 miles away. We were stopped at a stop light getting ready to turn left and arrive at the tutoring place. When suddenly a lady in the car behind me runs out of her car and motions for me to roll my window down.

Now I don’t know about you but in that split second I think

a. I could ignore her because she is probably crazy.
b. I don’t have any money to give away if that is what she wants.

But curiosity got the best of me and I rolled my window down and she yelled at me…

“You have a cereal bowl on the bumper of your car.”

I could not even comprehend what she was telling me, so I said in a kind of surprised tone, “WHAT!! ARE YOU SAYING?”

She said:

“You have a cereal bowl on the bumper of your car!” So I placed my car in park and proceeded to get out of my car; the lady ran behind my car and got the cereal bowl that was on my car.

It was indeed MY cereal bowl, and you would never guess what it was filled with. You got it…BAKED BEANS! I guess oldest son was having a snack while playing football outside with his brother. I should be proud of his multitasking skills, but in reality I am NOT!

I somehow managed to drive almost 15 miles down busy roads with a cereal bowl filled with baked beans sitting on the bumper of my car!!! I could not believe it.

Oh you better believe I got on my cell phone and called my oldest son and I said something to the affect:

“Do you want to know why I was just pulled over!!!” (Ok in reality I was sitting at a stop light, but I was so mad)

I have stinkin’ BEANS on my bumper!!!

“Um, sorry Mom.”

Now how would you title that story??

Can I just tell you how happy I am ……..

This is hilarious! We have had travel coffee mugs on the roof of our car (um, it is so hard to tell who could possibly have put it there–you know since it was on the drivers side roof, beside where I place my keys before getting in the car.)

Amazing it didn’t fall off. My kids eat refried pinto beans for snack–and they fry them themselves–leaving quite the mess. Sigh.

Great story. How bout Bumper Beans,

Okay, that is certainly not one I’ve heard before!

That was nice of the lady to tell you! I wonder how on earth they stayed there!

Oh Laurel, you should have taken the bowl and started eating the beans. And then start lecturing the woman on how important protein is for a good memory.

Then she’d have had something funny to blog about too.

I’ve heard of ‘jumping beans’ but never ‘balancing beans’.

You need to get those guys an agent.

Sorry Laurel…I have a clear mental picture of this….I am laughing (not at you —with you—surely you are laughing too?)
I am just as shocked that you were able to drive and keep them on there…maybe you should write the company and do a commercial? Or not. Yeah, Bumber Beans is the one I’d pick.
Have a blessed day….and week!

I’m laughing. I’m sorry, but it’s funny. And that it was beans makes it even funnier. Happy first day of school :)

How about a “Honk if you’ve got beans on your bumper” bumper sticker. Ahh school in the almost fall. Nothing quite like that new beginning. You know we were served beans on toast in England as a meal. Maybe your son would enjoy that! :)
